Ex Australian Army ...
Ex Australian Army Digger myself, I was a little to young to go to Vietnam (10 yrs old)..,. My Brother went over in 1969, completed 12 months in the hell hole. He was injured, shrapenal in the Right Shoulder (tore open a bloody big hole) he survived. I remember when the Army turned up to Mum and Dad doorstep, my mum thought he was dead...but they told us he was doing fine in a hospital. The next day, I left a note in the kitchen, packed a small bag and was heading to Vietnam.

and @MadDogKrey ...
and @MadDogKrey Yeah you have your info mixed up. The SASR were one of the first to deploy in Afghanistan alongside US special forces and played a pivotal role in reconnaissance which the unit is famed for and I believe is why the US government requested them.
LJW943

@MadDogKrey MadDog ...
@MadDogKrey MadDog is just mistaken, the SASR was one of the first to go into Afghanistan, along side many other US special forces and played a pivotal role in reconnaissance as that is what they're famed for and I believe that is also why they were requested by the US government as well.

Correction to ...
Correction to Military aircraft 101..the majority of the public didn't hate the diggers in Vietnam.Where does that stat come from?? Don't attempt to establish a myth (lie). The Libs were elected by one of their largest majorities ever during that war and their major plank was continuing support of our presence there!!

Remember the Iraq ...
Remember the Iraq war? I was THERE...and so were Aussies, and Brits, and even some El Salvadorans and Mongolians - stuff that didn't get coverage in the US Press, but no less real..and there's this thing called Google. LOOK. IT. UP. Same goes for Mexico in WWII - look it up. They sent troops to the Phillipines, Brazilians fought in Italy. LOOK. IT. UP.
estalker1647

Don't you remember ...
Don't you remember the Iraq ware no one joined us until a while when the war was almost done. Then the Canadians joined us and I don't think Mexico helped in WW2 because they had troubles in their own country at this time.

It is not John ...
It is not John Williamson. It's John Schumann, he was the lead singer of Redgum who originally wrote this song. Nor did Williamson serve in Vietnam, or did Schumann. The song is based on the stories a Vietnam Veteran told them during an interview for the song.
