Amagasm napisał :Janis' singing in this clip is live... the band's playing was pre-recorded... Still though, this has to be one of my favorite renditions of "Summertime" that Janis did live. Janis and Big Brother were truly phenominal.

Great book. Try Buried Alive in the Blues by Myra Friedman, and Love, Janis by Laura Joplin. I've read them and also, Going Down with Janis by Peggy Casserta. That one, I don't recommend. When you read these books, it gives you a multifaceted picture and understanding of Janis and her legendary performances and feelings about her life. Peace.

I understand your loyalty. Aretha was Queen of Soul. Janis, is Queen of Rock. And to that end, Piece of My Heart was originally performed by Aretha's sister Erma Franklin. Janis' version is the cover. Janis always remembered to give credit and respect to the great blues and soul artists she covered. She loved their music, and it sure shows. Peace!

I only THOUGHT I had heard the blues, till I heard Janis! Damn! My girls are 9 and 5 years old, and they already love her.

I love watching this clip. I think it shows us how much Janis was travelling down her own road. This guy is such a goof, but I think that he epitomized much of the America that Janis performed for. No wonder she felt alone. I think that she was pretty amazing to continue to create her own sound for all of her short, but powerful, life. Still groovin' to you, Janis!

I never really noticed how much Marge Simpson sounds like Janis Joplin.

Why did producers & cameramen of that era feel the need to 'psychedel-e-sise' the camera work? We're they in the booth tripping? Did they really think they could duplicate the light show, and even the psychedelic experience? The Smothers Brothers show and others tried with alot of camera efx.
