Sadly intelligence doesn't guarantee morality. Reason it merely the ability to see the truth, that doesn't imply a desire to be good to others. It may well be in their best interests to be hostile, especially if they are so advanced that humans present no real threat to them. Maybe they'd want to use the Earth to grow crops or something. Who knows. Of course there's a very good chance that they wouldn't, but I'd disagree that intelligence implies the desire to make alliances rahter than wars.
