It was supposed to be showing a bunch of different perspectives on how one can miss someone -- the young girl in the beginning lost her boyfriend, the old guy lost his wife apparently, the mom was watching the war on TV (presumably worried about losing her kid), etc. It was actually a pretty interesting concept.
