Es ist ein von Hans-Dieter Karras gegründetes Spezialensemble für Gregorianischen Gesang und insbesondere der Musik von Hildegard von Bingen. Dabei wird versucht, das lebendige Licht auch zu einer Lebendigen Musik werden zu lassen. Dabei ist Kantor Karras stark von der Kölner Sängerin und Hildegard Expertin Maria Jonas (Ars Coralis Köln) geprägt, die wiederum aus dem bedeutenden Ensemble Sequentia Köln hervorging. Mittelalterliche Praktiken wie der „Bordungesang" und das „Drohnen" -- auf einem Ton gesungene Vokale des Textes -- werden dabei ebenso eingesetzt, wie der dezente Anteil Mittelalterlicher Instrumente, ua Nyckelharpa, Regal, Gemshorn., Cymbel, Glocke, Portativ und Orgel. Eine große Rolle spielt auch die Verwendung der Pythagoräischen Temperierung (Stimmung) mit den reinen Quinten und Quarten. Die aus Laiensängerinnen bestehende Schola arbeitet seit etwa 12 Jahren intensiv an dieser Musik und ist -- wie das diese spirituelle, liturgische Musik geradezu herausfordert -- auch zu einer starken Gemeinschaft zusammengewachsen. Hans-Dieter Karras (geb. 1959 in Jena, Thüringen) ist geprägt durch die Kirchenmusikalische Tradition seiner Thüringischen Heimat. Studierte schon während der Schulzeit an der Spezialschule für Musik in Dresden, dann an der Hochschule Orchesterdirigat, Komposition und Klavier.
