The rise of the Ottoman Empire (12991453) refers to the period which started with the weakening of the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum in the very early 14th century and ended with the Byzantine Empire decline and the Fall of Constantinople in 1453. The rise of the Ottomans correlates with the decline of the Roman Empire, which generated the shift in power from a singular Christian European society to an Islamic influence. The beginning of this period was characterized by the Byzantine-Ottoman wars which lasted for a century and a half. During this period, the Ottoman Empire gained control of both Anatolia and the Balkans. Immediately after the establishment of the Anatolian Turkish Beyliks, some Turkic principalities united with the Ottomans against the Byzantine Empire. The rise period witnessed Sultanate of Rum's defeat against the Mongols in the 14th century and was followed by the growth of the Ottoman Empire (14531683)—a period referred as Pax Ottomana, the economic and social stability attained in the conquered provinces of the Ottoman Empire, by some historians.

We visited the Istanbul 1453 Panorama Museum, which houses the panorama painting of the conquest of Constantinople. Simply amazing. To get there, take the tram towards Bagcilar, and get down at the Topkapi station, just outside the city walls.

BYZANTINE ROMAN EMPIRE - The Byzantine Empire or Eastern Roman Empire, was the Roman Empire during the Middle Ages, centered on the capital of Constantinople, and ruled by Emperors. It was called the Roman Empire, and also as Romania (Greek: Ῥωμανία, Rhōmanía), by its inhabitants and its neighbours. As the distinction between "Roman Empire" and "Byzantine Empire" is purely a modern convention, it is not possible to assign a date of separation, but an important point is the Emperor Constantine I's transfer in 324 of the capital from Nicomedia (in Anatolia) to Byzantium on the Bosphorus, which became Constantinople (alternatively "New Rome"). The Empire remained one of the most powerful economic, cultural, and military forces in Europe, despite setbacks and territorial losses, especially during the RomanPersian and ByzantineArab Wars. The Empire recovered during the Macedonian dynasty, rising again to become the pre-eminent power in the Eastern Mediterranean by the late 10th century. After 1071 however, much of Asia Minor, the Empire's heartland, was lost to the Seljuk Turks. The Komnenian restoration regained some ground and briefly re-established dominance in the 12th century, but declined again under their successors. Hello!:) here's is a new video... Firstly, what I should say is that this moviemaking vid was inspired by the song "Yeni Hayat", which is the OST of my work, from the album 1453, by Can Atilla. I must admit that I've seriously doubted before deciding to open my channel to more options, because, originally, It was thought to share only my compositions and some of my pianistic interpretation. But finally I thought that the most variety, the best. So, in the future I'll incorporate vids like this one, as a travelling diary and mini-musical-docummentary... :) I must also say that all the photos and videos used are mine, not professional, of course... but nicely combinated with the music. Nothing else to say, the rest is written in the video. I really hope you enjoy it and maybe learn something else about Turkey or Istambul... To finish with, I'll let one of my favourites quotes in Spanish, from the poem of Jose de Espronceda: "...Asia a un lado, al otro Europa, y allá en su frente Estambul..." The Fall of Constantinople was the capture of the capital of the Byzantine Empire which occurred after a siege laid by the Ottoman Empire, under the command of Sultan Mehmed II. The siege lasted from Friday, 6 April 1453 until Tuesday, 29 May 1453, when the city was conquered by the Ottomans. Constantinople was defended by the army of the last Roman (Byzantine) Emperor Constantine XI Palaeologus.

The Conquest of Constantinople 1453
The Fall of Constantinople was the capture of the capital of the Byzantine Empire which occurred after a siege laid by the Ottoman Empire, under the command of Sultan Mehmed II. The siege lasted from Thursday, 5 April 1453 until Tuesday, 29 May 1453 (according to the Julian Calendar), when the city was conquered by the Ottomans. Constantinople was defended by the army of Emperor Constantine XI. The event marked the end of the political independence of the millennium-old Byzantine Empire, which was by then already fragmented into several Greek monarchies. Following his accession to the Ottoman throne, Mehmed had been applying pressure on Constantinople and the Byzantines by building forts along the Dardanelles. On 5 April, he laid siege to Constantinople with an army numbering 80000 to 200000 men. The city was defended by an army of 7000 of whom 2000 were foreigners. The siege began with heavy Ottoman artillery firing at the city's walls while a smaller Ottoman force captured the rest of the Byzantine strongholds in the area. Ottoman attempts to blockade the city completely failed at first owing to the boom blocking the entrance to the Golden Horn thus allowing four Christian ships to enter the city. At the entrance to the Golden Horn, there was a large chain pulled across from Constantinople to the Tower of Galata on the northern side, preventing unwanted ships from entering. The Eastern Roman Empire or else Byzantium was a majestic empire which lasted over a milenia. Its capital Constantinople (Nova Roma) was founded by emperor Constantine the Great in 330 AD, at the place of the ancient Greek city Byzantio. The empire was the ark of the ancient Greek knowledge, because many ancient documents preserved in the monasteries and the library of Constantinople. The Byzantine empire was connected with the Greek element, because in the eastern roman empire, people used the Greek language and after the 7th century AD it became the official language. The Byzantine society was very advanced, the capital reached 1.000.000 citizens. Also their weapons were very advanced, for example the liquid fire or else the Greek fire as it is called, was a flamethrower weapon and with its use they destroyed the Arab fleet and save europe from Islam. In 530AD emperor Justinianus with his architects Anthemius and Isidorus built the temple of Aghia Sofia, which was the wonder of medieval times. The economy of Byzantium was not Feudalism, as it was in Europe, it was a commercial economy. The empire with missionaries helped culture to expand in the slavic and russian kingdoms. Cyril and Methodius created the slavic alphabet or else Cyrilic alphabet as it called and converted them to Orthodox christianity.
