Rode Safely Victor Horsman Liverpool 1955
A motorcycle road safety from 1955, made by the Liverpool Motorcycle dealership Victor Horsmans. It is filmed in and around The Wirral and Liverpool City Centre. The film features various riders such as Nobby Clark (not sure if this was Mike Hailwoods mechanic) Bill Quinn, Eric Wilson, Keith Walker and Ken Morris who all seem to be local Merseyside riders, well known in the TT ISDT etc. I have tried to spot local area's seen in the film and so far I can recognise Parkgate, Heswall, New Brighton, Birkenhead, Castle St, The Tunnel Entrance and the road coming back from The Ponderosa in Wales. If you recognise any other locations please feel free to add a note ie Gayton Roundabout approach A540 towards Heswall 26:53. Any history about the featured riders would also be most welcomed. The boys are taking Olive on a picnic. It's April 1, and Bluto plays a series of "jokes" on Popeye, though of course they go beyond the bounds of acceptability, particularly once they get to the picnic grounds; Bluto puts gasoline on the fire he asks Popeye to light and swaps a beehive for the lemonade. Bluto then launches a cruel joke against Olive and frames Popeye. The capper: he replaces Popeye's spinach with a joke can, and runs off with Olive for some canoeing. But Popeye gets the last laugh with an inflatable sea monster. Public Domain.

The submarine Skate had not withstood the BAKER explosion of Operation Crossroads. At a location listed as "N 29 degrees, W 126 degrees," about 500 miles southwest of San Diego, a deep underwater, weapons effects nuclear test, WIGWAM, rumbled through the ocean. A model submarine experiment submerged beneath a floating barge vanished after the 30-kiloton burst of power from Operation Wigwam on May 14, 1955. Moonfleet (1955, Fritz Lang) Director: Fritz Lang Moonfleet is a 1955 film directed by Fritz Lang which was inspired by the novel Moonfleet by J. Meade Falkner, although significant alterations were made in the characters and plot. A gothic melodrama set in Britain during the eighteenth century, the film is about John Mohune, a young orphan, played by Jon Whiteley, who is sent to the Dorset village of Moonfleet to stay with an old friend of his mother's, Jeremy Fox. Le Mans 1955 accident raw footages. This accident was captured at least on four different cameras and angles. I have read a lot of reports on this accidents, but after analyzing those raw footages by myself I found a lot of those reports were inaccurate. -- First shoot is from an amateur camera. Film is broken at the last picture. It has been said that the cameraman has been injured or killed. This shoot was long lost (or hidden)... When film shown at normal speed, it is obvious that Pierre Levegh had no chance to avoid the collision. It also shows that Lance Macklin had almost lost control of his Austin. He went to his left much more than needed to avoid Hawthorn who was braking for pitting. -- Second shoot is the most famous. It mainly shows how parts of the car where thrown into the public. -- Third shoot is from the top of the pits. On the very first frames, it shows how the Mercedes actually fell into the crowd and bounced over the fence again to finaly stop and explose next to the track. This is something I wasn't aware of and descovered by watching the document frame by frame. It also shows the engine, front axle and pilot catapulted out of the car. The fourth one was captured in color but is shown here in a black and white version. It mainly shows Maclin's Austin bouncing in the pits, killing and injuring people on the right side of the track.

US Navy demonstrates its Flying Platform in 1955, a "flying skateboard" or "hover board" vehicle that uses a direct lift rotor aircraft, using contra-rotating ducted fans controlled by the pilot shifting his body weight around to tilt the platform. Although it looked like it could have been a massive development [and a great way for us to beat the traffic to work] sadly development ceased because the US Army judged them to be impractical as combat vehicles as they were small, limited in speed and only barely flew out of the ground cushion effect.

This video celebrates the achievement of one woman's bold action of standing up by remaining seated. Rosa Parks, a 42 year old working woman on Dec. 1, 1955, was arrested for not moving from her seat on a public bus for a white man. One year and one day later, after a bus boycott led by the SCLC and Dr. MLK, public transportation laws were changed and blacks received equal rights while riding on public transportation. It was a great feat for African Americans, and it all started with Rosa Parks. This is a thank you to the "Mother of the Civil Rights Movement."

Why Study Home Economics? (1955)
This fine film attempts to cloak fifties "happy homemaker" stereotyping in the mantle of science. It opens as Janice and Carol, two sisters, try to decide which classes they want to attend next semester. Janice remarks that she wants to take some courses in Home Ec, to which Carol is aghast. "Home Economics?" she scoffs. "Why in the world do you want to take Home Economics?" Janice is not easily dissuaded, and replies "Why? Because that's something I'm gonna need to KNOW. If I'm gonna be a homemaker the rest of my life, I want to know what I'm doing!" To confirm her point of view, Janice visits "Miss Jenkins," her Home Ec teacher, who explains that Home Economics isn't just baking and sewing; it teaches "the fundamental principals of food buying" and "the psychology of clothing." "Present-day textiles cannot be judged with confidence just by casual examination," Miss Jenkins cautions, as we see shots of girls peering through microscopes and stretching cloth swatches on a mechanical rack. If Janice decides not to get married ("at least, not right away" Miss Jenkins chuckles) she can apply her Home Ec training to college courses such as chemistry and bacteriology, or so this film insists. "Home economics training teaches ways of developing democratic practices within the home," Miss Jenkins adds, patriotically, but she doesn't have to say any more to convince Janice. "Anyone who's going to be married and a homemaker would be foolish NOT to take Home Economics!"
