INGMAR NORDSTRÖMS: OVER THE RAINBOW

Ingmar Nordströms were quite good at following the media trends in popular music unlike many other dance orchestras who were a bit more conservative. One example is that Ingmar Nordströms was the first group who started releasing their records on Compact Disc, starting in 1984 with "Saxparty 11", they made the first (and today thanks to Youtube internationally famous) dansband video "Dansa, dansa" in 1987. They were the first (and probably only) Swedish dansband who released a picture disc -- that happened when they had their 30th year jubilee in 1985. They also released 12" EPs (or maxi-EPs if you prefer that name for it), which they weren't first to do, but they released them more regularly during the 1980s than any other dansband. We'll hear an example of that here -- a version of the famous song "Over the rainbow" from the movie "The Wizard of Oz", and it is taken from a Frituna maxi-EP released in 1985 to promote the upcoming album "Saxparty 12". Lineup: Ingmar Nordström (clarinet, saxophones), Steine Lindberg (clarinet, saxophones), Bo Jansson (saxophones), Bert Månson (keyboards), Janne Landegren (bass, guitar) and Sven Schill (drums). They are joined by guitarists Lasse Wellander (of ABBA fame), Hasse Rosén (known from the 1960s pop group the Violents) and we also hear an accordion solo by Kjell Öhman (famous from Swedish television's "Allsång på Skansen" and from the 1960s pop group the Telstars). Ingmar Nordströms was an orchestra from Växjö, and they were ...

Genesis - Seconds Out - Los Endos

Genesis is an English rock band formed in 1967. With approximately 150 million albums sold worldwide, Genesis are among the top 30 highest-selling recording artists of all time.[1] In 1988 the band won a Grammy Award for Best Concept Music Video. Genesis' members have included Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks, Steve Hackett, Ray Wilson and Phil Collins, all of whom have achieved success as solo artists. Genesis began as a 1960s pop band playing moody, simple keyboard-driven melodies. During the 1970s they evolved into a progressive rock band and began to incorporate complex song structures and elaborate instrumentation, while their concerts took on a more theatrical tone. This second phase was characterised by lengthy performances such as the twenty-three minute "Supper's Ready" and, in 1974, the concept album The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. The 1980s saw the band produce more accessible pop music based on melodic hooks; this change of direction gave them their first number one album in the United Kingdom, Duke, and their only number one single in the United States, "Invisible Touch". Genesis have changed personnel several times. Collins, previously the band's drummer, replaced Gabriel as lead singer in 1975, and was replaced by former Stiltskin singer Ray Wilson for the 1997 album Calling All Stations. Due to the commercial failure of that album, the band announced an indefinite hiatus. However in June 2007, Collins, Banks, Rutherford, and touring members ...

GENESIS- THE FOUNTAIN OF SALMACIS

Genesis are an English rock band that formed in 1967. The band currently comprises the longest-tenured members Phil Collins (lead vocals and drums), Mike Rutherford (guitar and bass guitar), and Tony Banks (keyboards). Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips and Steve Hackett also played major roles in the band in its early years. Genesis is among the top 30 highest-selling recording artists of all time with approximately 150 million albums sold worldwide. Genesis began as a 1960s pop band playing moody, simple keyboard-driven melodies. During the 1970s, they evolved into a progressive rock band, incorporating complex song structures and elaborate instrumentation, while their concerts became theatrical experiences with innovative stage design, pyrotechnics, elaborate costumes and on-stage stories. This second phase was characterised by lengthy performances such as the 23 minute "Supper's Ready" and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, the 1974 concept album. In the 1980s, the band produced accessible pop music based on melodic hooks; this change of direction gave them their first number one album in the United Kingdom, Duke, and their only number one single in the United States, "Invisible Touch". Genesis has changed personnel several times. Stage fright forced founding member Anthony Phillips to leave the band in 1970. In 1975, Collins, then the band's drummer, replaced Peter Gabriel as lead singer after a lengthy search for a replacement. To facilitate Collins's move to lead vocals ...

Mono - Life In Mono HD 1080p

Mono was a British pop duo which became a one-hit wonder in the late 1990s with their song "Life in Mono". The group's music is often described as trip hop, based on its similarities to contemporary electronic music acts including Sneaker Pimps and Portishead. Audible, and frequently cited, influences in Mono's songs include jazzy instrumentation reminiscent of 1960s spy film soundtracks and production styles rooted in 1960s pop music.

The Crookes Performing 'Yes, Yes, We're Magicians' @ Sheffield's Legendary Club 60

The Crookes have ambition and flare and a singer with a beautiful voice; one of those special, poetic voices which dips and soars above their jangling guitars. Their musical hearts are owned by both a reverence for storytelling and 1960s pop songwriting, and a faint nostalgia for times gone by. Tipped by Steve Lamacq, lauded by the NME we expect big things from these guys. Here they are performing at the legendary Club 60 in Sheffield. Catch them on their single tour at Your Harley on 27th September.

CONNIE FRANCIS: "GAMES THAT LOVERS PLAY" (1966)

German composer James Last wrote this song especially for Connie, who recorded it as the flipside of her single "Spanish Nights and You" in September 1966. It scored decently on adult contemporary and easy listening charts, but it was not a mega hit in the United States. I think it is a marvelous song. (Wayne Newton had a hit with it, too.)

Peter Sarstedt - Take Off Your Clothes (Original Version)

www.petersarstedt.com Peter Sarstedt (born Peter Eardley Sarstedt,12 December 1941, Delhi, India) is an Anglo-Indian singer-songwriter. Sarstedt was born in India but his family relocated to England in 1954. He is the younger brother of the 1960s pop star Eden Kane for whom he briefly played bass and the elder brother of pop singer Clive Sarstedt.[5] He is best known for his 1969, UK number one hit, "Where Do You Go To (My Lovely)?"; a portrait of a poor-born girl who becomes a member of the Euro jet-set. Set to a faux European waltz tune, it reached the top chart position in 14 countries and was a minor hit in the US[6] The song was awarded the 1969 Ivor Novello Award, (together with David Bowie's "Space Oddity"). Other Sarstedt songs include "Beirut", "Take Off Your Clothes", "I Am A Cathedral" and "Frozen Orange Juice" (UK #10 in 1969). In the 1980s and 1990s he frequently toured the UK as part of the 'Solid Silver '60s' package tours. "Where Do You Go To" was later used in the 2007 Wes Anderson films Hotel Chevalier and The Darjeeling Limited which sparked new interest in Sarstedt's music.
