1966 prediction of the home computer

an utterly fantastic video from 1966 that speculates on what life will be like in 1999... so I thought I'd upload it to celebrate 2009! It is so funny the way they talk about 'the wife' and 'the husband'. Unlike most videos from the past that speculated on flying cars and robots doing all our chores, this one went for the 'home shopping' angle, bank account unification and a way to send letters electronically all over the world.

Simon & Garfunkel - The Sound of Silence 1966 live

Simon & Garfunkel - The Sound of Silence 1966 live Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share And no one dared Disturb the sound of silence "Fools", said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words, like silent raindrops fell And echoed In the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls And tenement halls" And whispered in the sounds of silence

Marvin Gaye - Sunny (1966)

MARVIN GAYE SUNNY Sunny, yesterday my heart was filled with rain. Sunny, you smiled at me and really eased the pain. Oh, the dark days are done, and the bright days are here, My sunny one shines so sincere, Oh, Sunny one so true, I love you. Sunny, thank you for the sunshine bouquet. Sunny, thank you for the love you've brought my way. You gave to me your all and all, Now I feel ten feet tall, Oh, Sunny one so true, I love you. Sunny, thank you for the truth you've let me see. Sunny, thank you for the facts from A to Z. My life was torn like wind blown sand, Then a rock was formed when we held hands. Sunny one so true, I love you. Sunny, thank you for that smile upon your face. Sunny, thank you for that gleam that flows with grace. You're my spark of nature's fire, You're my sweet complete desire. Sunny one so true, I love you.

Bobby Hebb - Sunny (1966)

One of my most successful productions: released in 1966, written by Bobby Hebb, this became a monster hit for all concerned, in addition to being covered countless times by others. A wonderful collaboration with Ashford & Simpson and Melba Moore providing the background vocals, along with Academy Award-winning arranger Joe Renzetti (The Buddy Holly Story). BMI notes that "Sunny" is in the top 25 of 21st Century of all-time hits and there are over 502 cover versions of this classic song. Video directed by Wedigo Watson, with Jerry Ross Productions

The Best of 1966 Batman/Bruce Wayne

Long before the dark and heroic Batman became known to 21st century audiences, there was another style of Batman - a much more "square" Batman. Throughout the 1960's Adam West captured the hearts of many Batman lovers with his campy style, witty puns, and stone cold delivery. We held our breath with every incredible discovery, wordy verbiage, or life-long lesson taught to the Boy Wonder. The Batman we will always love is remembered in this montage, a collection of his best from the 1966 "Batman The Movie". Enjoy.

Frank Sinatra -Summer Wind (1966)

Summer Wind first recorded by Wayne Newton in 1965 but is most known by Frank Sinatra which was released in 1966 in his album, Strangers in the Night. Music: Henry Mayer Lyrics: (By Johnny Mercer) The summer wind came blowin' in From across the sea It lingered there to touch your hair And walk with me All summer long we sang a song And then we strolled that golden sand Two sweethearts and the summer wind Like painted kites, those days and nights They went flying by The world was new beneath the blue Umbrella sky Then softer than a piper man One day, it called to you I lost you I lost you to The summer wind The autumn wind And the winter winds They have come and gone And still those days Those lonely days They go on and on And guess who’s sigh`s His lullabies through nights that never end My fickled friend, The summer wind The summer wind warm summer wind Mmm the summer wind

The Supremes: Live @ The Hollywood Palace (1966) - "You Keep Me Hangin' On" & "Somewhere"

The Supremes perform their 8th #1 hit "You Keep Me Hangin' On" and "Somewhere" from West Side Story at The Hollywood Palace on October the 22nd, 1966. This performance features the original (and most popular) lineup of The Supremes: From left to right: - Florence Ballard - Mary Wilson - Diana Ross "You Keep Me Hangin' On" was first released 10 days before this performance on October 12th 1966 with "Remove This Doubt" as its b-side. The song rose to #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 (called the US Pop Singles Chart at the time) and also managed top spot on the US R&B Singles Chart. The song was written and produced by Holland-Dozier-Holland who had written and produced all the group's hits up to then also the song was put on the group's 1967 album entitled "The Supremes Sing Holland-Dozier-Holland". Here is a studio mix of the song that is different to the released version as it features much more prominent and louder backing: uk.youtube.com "Somewhere" is a song from the musical West Side Story. Written by Leonard Bernstein the song has been covered by many. The Supremes not only sing it here but recorded it for their "Theres A Place For Us" album (which is named after the first line in the song) and also had it as part of their live set performing it on their 1965 live album "The Supremes At The Copa" and also sang the song live in Paris in 1965 as part of the Motortown Revue.
