BOSTON -- In a stunning display of quick-strike offensive firepower and goaltending ineptitude, the Bruins embarrassed Roberto Luongo and the Canucks, chasing the Canucks goalie just eight and a half minutes into the game after three goals on just eight shots. The Bruins were fired up before the game when 93-year-old former Bruin Milt Schmidt - known as "The Ultimate Bruin" fired the crowd into a frenzy by waving the banner as the honorary "Banner Captain." He played on the 1939 and 1941 Bruins teams that won the Stanley Cup. He was also general manager of the Cup-winning Bruins of 1970 and '72. Brad Marchand got the Bruins machine rolling when he came flying into the offensive zone and skated over to right circle. He scooped up a loose puck off the side boards and snapped off a wrist shot that beat Luongo near-side over his left shoulder at 5:31 of the first. The goal was Marchand's ninth of the playoffs, setting a new Bruins rookie playoff record. Just 35 seconds later, Milan Lucic fired a shot that was just strong enough to work its way through Luongo's pads and crawl over the goal line to make it 2-0. Two and a half minutes later, Andrew Ference took a slap shot on the power play from the left point that beat Luongo cleanly on his blocker side. Luongo, who was very vocal about his goaltending abilities while questioning Thomas' style after Game 5, was immediately pulled by Canucks coach Alain Vigneault after allowing three goals on eight shots in only eight minutes <b>...</b>

Here are some selected excerpts of the Chicago Black Hawks / Boston Bruins game on WFLD Channel 32, played at Boston Garden in Boston, MA. This was from an original 2" Quad master tape, and though the "recorded date" says 3-31-76, this game was broadcast on 3-25-76. I think someone, perhaps Don Shannon (who directed this telecast) made this compilation of excerpts from the original tape(s) on the 31st (or perhaps it was done live? That wouldn't account for the 3-31-76 date though) In any case, it's too bad he didn't save the entire telecast, but at least we have a nice overview. The announcer for this game, as for all Black Hawks games in the 1975-76 hockey season, was Lloyd Pettit. (The Bruins defeated the Black Hawks, 4-2.) All through the feed from Boston, there is the 100 Hz - 5 kHz telco audio which was heard on all remote transmissions through the end of January 1978. Also featuring Brad Palmer (best known from his time doing sports on WLS Channel 7 News, AKA, "The Professor") doing some interviews from the WFLD studios. Highlights include: Opening segment with sponsor information (voiceover by Doug Dahlgren? or Bud Kelly?) - sponsors for tonight's game given as: - Anheuser-Busch, Inc.
