- July 4'th 1977, Oakland, great quality. "Free Bird" (also spelled "Freebird") is a song by the American southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. It was first featured on the band's debut album (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd) in 1973, and has been included on subsequent albums released by the band. Released as a single in November 1974, "Free Bird" became the band's second Top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in early 1975, where it peaked at No. 19. A live version of the song also reached the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1977, peaking at No. 38. Free Bird also achieved the No. 3 spot on Guitar World's 100 Greatest Guitar Solos. It is used as a finale by Lynyrd Skynyrd during their live performances, and is their longest song, often going well over 14 minutes when played live. The lyrical portion of the song was written early in the group's history. Roadie Billy Powell was discovered as a keyboardist for the band when he played the intro piece to "Free Bird" at a high school prom. Lead vocalist Ronnie Van Zant noted his talent and invited him to join. Allen Collins's then-girlfriend, Kathy, whom he later married, asked him, "If I leave here tomorrow would you still remember me?" Collins jotted the question down and it eventually became the opening line of "Free Bird". Gary Rossington played a Gibson SG and used a glass Coricidin bottle for a slide on this song to emulate one of his heroes, Duane Allman. Lovely Day - Bill Withers (1977)
"Lovely Day" is the title of a popular song from 1977 by the American soul and R&B singer Bill Withers. The song was written by Withers and Skip Scarborough and appears on Withers' 1978 album "Menagerie". Released as a single in late 1977, "Lovely Day" peaked at #6 on the Billboard R&B chart and at #30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US in early 1978. Producer Clarence McDonald also arranged the original 1977 version of the song and played keyboards. Guitars were played by Ray Parker, Jr., Jerry Knight played bass, and Russell Kunkel played drums. Towards the end of the song, Withers holds a note for 18 seconds. Bonnie Raitt - Runaway (Live 1977)
Long a critic's darling, singer/guitarist Bonnie Raitt did not begin to win the comparable commercial success due her until the release of the aptly titled 1989 blockbuster Nick of Time; her tenth album, it rocketed her into the mainstream consciousness nearly two decades after she first committed her unique blend of blues, rock, and R&B to vinyl. Born in Burbank, CA, on November 8, 1949, she was the daughter of Broadway star John Raitt, best known for his starring performances in such smashes as Carousel and Pajama Game. After picking up the guitar at the age of 12, Raitt felt an immediate affinity for the blues, and although she went off to attend Radcliffe in 1967, within two years she had dropped out to begin playing the Boston folk and blues club circuit. Signing with noted blues manager Dick Waterman, she was soon performing alongside the likes of idols including Howlin' Wolf, Sippie Wallace, and Mississippi Fred McDowell and in time earned such a strong reputation that she was signed to Warner Bros. Debuting in 1971 with an eponymously titled effort, Raitt immediately emerged as a critical favorite, applauded not only for her soulful vocals and thoughtful song selection but also for her guitar prowess, turning heads as one of the few women to play bottleneck. Her 1972 follow-up, Give It Up, made better use of her eclectic tastes, featuring material by contemporaries like Jackson Browne and Eric Kaz, in addition to a number of R&B chestnuts and even three Raitt <b>...</b>

From the Rosebud doc. Some Happy Southern Californian rock&roll! You Make Loving Fun, the fourth single from Rumours, is definitely one of the songs that made Fleetwood Mac who they are today. When performed live, You Make Loving Fun always gets the crowd going and usually gets a "Christine McVie" shout from Lindsey Buckingham for the recognition she deserves. Its funky keyboards and outstanding harmonies make the song unique and a favorite of many Fleetwood mac fans. In one of the few optimistic songs on Rumours, Christine tells us of her love affair of Fleetwood Mac's then lighting director, Curry Grant. While going through a rough break-up at the time with John McVie, Curry gave her something special; he made her feel valued and, of course, loved. Curry seemed to have been just what Christine needed at the time, somebody to love, and somebody to love her. "Sweet, wonderful you, you make me happy with the things you do", shows how much she adores Curry and how well he treats her. When she sings, "I never did believe in miracles, but I have a feeling its time to try. I never did believe in the ways of magic, but I'm beginning to wonder why", it shows Christine is experiencing emotions she has never felt before. "Cold As Ice" was a 1977 song by British-American rock band Foreigner from their self-titled debut album. It became one of the best-known songs of the band in the US, peaking at number 6 in the Billboard Hot 100. It was initially the B-side of some versions of the "Feels Like The First Time" 45 rpm single. Foreigner are a British/American rock band, originally formed in 1976.
