Potential new customers of the Audi R8 Spyder will have an additional engine choice to consider before placing an order. The German automaker will make the car available with a 4.2-liter FSI V8 engine that produces 430 hp (316 kW) and up to 430 Nm (317 ft-lb) of torque. Up until now, the car had only been offered with a 5.2-liter FSI V10 that kicks out 525 hp (386 kW) and up to 530 Nm (391 ft-lb) of torque, as seen in the pictures here. Photos of the car with the new engine have not yet been released. With the new engine, and the R-tronic sequential manual transmission, the car sprints to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, before hitting its 299 km/h (186 mph) top speed. Quattro all-wheel drive is also included. Fuel consumption with the R-tronic is a 13.9 liters per 100 km, or 17 mpg. With the six-speed manual, that figure jumps to 14.9 liters, or 15.79 mpg. Energy recovered during braking was installed to help improve fuel economy on the R8. The engine features a crankcase made from an aluminum and silicon alloy, and uses forged aluminum pistons with steel connecting rods. It has a separate oil tank and a dry sump lubrication system. Weight for the engine is listed at 216 kg (476 lbs.). Normal options are still available on the car, including leather upholstery, carbon fiber interior fittings, piano black trim, Alcantara headliner, and more. 2011 Audi R8 V10 Spyder The Audi R8[4] (Typ 42)[6] is a mid-engine, 2-seater sports car,[4][7] which uses Audi's trademark quattro permanent all-wheel drive system.[4][8] It was introduced by the German automaker Audi AG in 2006. The car was exclusively designed, developed, and manufactured by Audi AG's high performance private subsidiary company, quattro GmbH, and is based on the Lamborghini Gallardo platform.[9] The fundamental construction of the R8 is based on the Audi Space Frame,[4] and uses an aluminium monocoque which is built around space frame principles. The US pricing for the R8 V10 will start at $146000. R tronic models will carry a hefty $9100 premium, as their base price is $155100. To help differentiate the model, Audi equips the supercar with full-LED headlights, 19-inch Y-design forged aluminum alloy wheels, modified sideblades with larger air intakes, and a revised grille with additional chrome accents. Other unique updates include new rocker panels, dual oval exhaust tips, a larger rear diffuser, and plenty of V10 badging. This Audi probably would have never happened had Porsche gained control of the Volkswagen Group five years earlier. But now the Audi R8 5.2 is out, larger than life and even better than expected. True, the Gallardo is sharper. The SL63 AMG is wilder. And the 911 Turbo is all that in a more compact package. But in terms of total dynamic balance; anyone-can-do-it, A-to-B ground-covering ability; and that all-important blend of confidence, compliance, and comfort, the 5.2-liter V-10-powered R8 is the new leader of the pack. That's the inescapable conclusion after a memorable day in which even losing my driver's license ten times over would not have dimmed the sparkle in my eyes. In the morning, I left Marbella, Spain, for the remote, privately owned Ascari racetrack in a Suzuka gray R8 with a three-pedal transmission and magnetic dampers (standard in the US). After lunch, I chased the warm winter sun through the rolling hills of the Costa del Sol in a brilliant red coupe that featured the R tronic automated-manual transmission and the conventional chassis setup. My pick? The manual version, even though it is a little less aggressive on the track and a little thirstier overall. When we first tried the R8 a couple years ago, the last things it seemed to need were two more cylinders and 100 extra horses. The engineers at the German tuner developed a special performance package for the Audi R8 GT. Not only the sound, but also the throughput and the weight of the standard exhaust system were optimized. The result is a 40 percent lighter system with remote valve flaps, handcrafted of stainless steel. Combined with the specially tuned electronics the Germans offer 611hp and 585Nm of torque. Wheelsandmore specifies the top speed at 335km/h and the acceleration sprint from 0-100km/h within 3.3 seconds. The matte black coated lightweight handcrafted three-piece forged wheels are sizing 9.5×20 inches in front, combined with 245/30/20 Continental Sport Contact 5P tires and 11.0×20 inches at the rear with 295/25/20 Conti tires. An improved suspension performance is realized using a KW-Automotive setup with a LCS hydraulic lift up system. Via a remote control the system provides an additional road clearance of 40mm to avoid expensive damaging. A year after the R8 GT coupe was launched, and quickly sold out, now comes a Spyder sibling to take the role of flagship model for the Audi brand. The R8 GT Spyder features the same power plant as in the R8 GT coupe - a 5.2 liter FSI V10 unit producing 412 kW (560 PS / 552 bhp) and 540 Nm (398.28 lb-ft) of torque. Curb weight on the Spyder is just 1640 kg (3616 lbs), which is 85 kg less than on the R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI Quattro upon which it is based. The GT Spyder makes use of carbon-fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) for several body panels as well as glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) for the seats to reduce weight. The R8 GT Spyder goes from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 317 km/h (196.97 mph). The fabric soft-top roof deploys or retracts in 19 seconds and can do so at speeds up to 50 km/h (31 mph). Like the R8 GT coupe, The GT Spyder will be limited to just 333 units. I have filmed a gorgeous ABT R8 V10 Spyder. The german tuner took the Audi R8 V10 Spyder and put massive mods on it, making it a truly awesome looking supercar! There's a great contrast between the chrome and the middle section of the car with carbon dominating from the bonnet to the big rear wing. I recorded a white, great looking Audi R8 GT Spyder! The R8 GT Spyder has a 560hp V10. It is a bit lighter, more rigid and more aerodynamic than the normal R8 V10 and goes from 0 to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds! There will be only 333 made of this special R8 and there were two of these R8 GT Spyders on this parking lot!
