Tokyo Earthquake, main quake as it happened 2011/03/11 ~15:00 local

Tokyo Earthquake, viewed from the third floor of my apartment in Minami-Asagaya, Suginami-ku Tokyo. This only covers about the last half of the intense stuff, total time lasted over three minutes. The motion started off as usual with side to side jerking but finished with more of a sinking and rising feeling with some side to side motion as well. All in all it was a huge jolt of adrenaline and I'm thankful my friends here are all safe. *The siren is a useful relic from Japan's history. Used to alert people to air raids or bombing, the city now employs the system to broadcast emergency messages to citizens. It also serves to play the city's song at 5pm every night. **Media** This video may be linked to or used for broadcasting under the condition that credit be given to "Dolan O'Neill" and that you contact me of your useage. 東京都杉並区成田東5丁目rough address of where the video was taken.

Tokyo Earthquake - Mori Tower 52nd Floor (11/3/2011)

I was on the 52nd floor of the Mori Tower in Roppongi Hills when the earthquake struck. You can get a sense of how much the tower was shaking from the curtains moving and the people screaming. The earthquake itself was scary, but the psychological fear of the tower collapsing etc was stronger. Well after the earthquake stopped, the building continued to sway back and forth. We ended up waiting about 1 1/2hrs for the lifts to start up again.

The moves are actually not so visible on the video. You can see that people do not detect immediatly the strenghth of the earthquake. First thinking that it will finishi soon and therefore ready to take the metro immediatly. After that, in the street, buildings are shaking for a long time. A metallic noise can be heard, coming from cranes on a skycraper, with good eyes or a zoom (not on this video), we can see workers diligently fixing the cranes before leaving the premise.

March 11, 2011 Earthquake Tokyo, Japan (eyewitness video)

I was in Japan with a traveling theatrical show when the earthquake hit. At the time, I was on the 5th floor of the Bic Camera building in Tokyo, just to the south-west of Tokyo International Forum where the show was to play that evening. This is video I recorded on a point and shoot camera. The quake had been going for more than a minute when I started recording. :10 large jolt which caused me and the elderly Japanese man in the frame (as well as the employees at the counter in the background) to nearly lose our balance. At this point, I knelt down to stay stable, and the camera tilts as I'm kneeling :14 notice the carts on wheels rolling out of position 2:02 Some small boxes of product have fallen to the floor. I'd been turning the camera sideways for portrait shots all day, so out of habit I turned the camera to better frame the shot forgetting there's no way to correct this when you watch a video! 2:20 some books that had fallen off the shelf. The high-pitch electronic beeping is all the anti-theft alarms going off on the displays around me - they tend to mask the sound of the building shaking. I was fine, as was everyone else associated with the show from the US and Japan.

Life in Tokyo After Earthquake

This is not a car video, sorry if you were expecting. - But I wanted to tell everyone watching my channel that I am safe in Tokyo, Japan. Thanks to everyone who sent me messages of encouragement! Since after the earthquake, although there has been some new things I need to worry about in my daily life, such as the reliability and punctuality of transportation methods (especially trains) deriving to an electric shortage caused by the damages to the nuclear power plant, there isn't a huge difference from before - everything has just become a bit inconvenient, at a level I can bear. I not only read/watch what the media in Japan says, but also some of the prestigious media abroad everyday. And from what I read on media abroad, I feel their broadcast on situation of Tokyo is not always real... most of the time it is exaggerating. So I had filmed what the city looks like, and how people are reacting as of today, Thursday March 17, 2011. The news of the day was that, the demand of electricity was expected to go over the supply level, so the electricity company had alerted that a huge blackout might occur in the evening. So everyone started to do what they could do to save electricity - Offices and stores turned off every electric advertisement signs, close their store earlier so they can turn off all of the electricity-consuming facilities and products. Number of trains were reduced to approximately half of the regular basis. Of course these acts caused a small confusion as you ...

Hearing the Japanese Earthquake - Clip 2

This recording of the 2011 Japanese earthquake was taken near the coastline of Japan between Fukushima Daiichi (the nuclear reactor site) and Tokyo. The initial blast of sound is the 9.0 mainshock. As the earth's plates slipped dozens of meters into new positions, aftershocks occurred. They are indicated by "pop" noises immediately following the mainshock sound. These plate adjustments will likely continue for years. Georgia Tech Associate Professor Zhigang Peng has converted the seismic waves from last year's earthquakes into audio files. The results allow experts and general audiences to "hear" what the quake sounded like as it moved through the earth and around the globe. For more audio clips, visit www.gatech.edu
