2600 Films: Freedom Downtime (Complete)

Had to fiddle with the audio a bit to bypass copyright blocks. ------- "Freedom Downtime" is the story of computer hacker Kevin Mitnick, imprisoned without bail for nearly five years. The film tries to uncover the reasons why the authorities are so scared of Mitnick as well as define what exactly he did. As word of a new Hollywood movie portraying Mitnick as a terrorist becomes known, hackers begin to turn to activism to get their message out. Through interviews with relatives, friends, lawyers, and experts in the computer and civil liberties arena, a picture of a great injustice becomes apparent. A cross country journey uncovers some realities of the hacker culture as well as the sobering reality that so many technically adept young people seem destined for prison. Classic Game Room HD - PS2 vs. ATARI 2600 console review

Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of the PLAYSTATION 2 PS2 VS. ATARI 2600 video computer system VCS. CGRHD takes a close look at the new PS2 Slim model compared to the smaller Atari 2600 Jr. The 2600 Junior (as it was known) was released in 1986 to a public hot for the NES, sadly it never received the recognition that it deserved. So which is better? In this versus console battle to the death these two juggernauts from different video gaming eras compete for the world championship of great video game consoles... right. What is incredible is that in the history of video games, the Atari 2600 was a landmark system that debuted in 1977. The PS2 was released to North America in October of 2000. Both were expensive when they came out, were huge and bulky and had only a few games available. But over time they developed a huge fan following that enjoyed their gameplay and graphics, and had literally thousands of games released for each system. Both the 2600 and Playstation 2 had smaller, more compact models released and both are more affordable today for collectors. Sadly there is no wood grained heavy sixer PS2. Check out all the Classic Game Room HD reviews for awesome arcade retro old school games vs. the newest brand new video games on the market for PS3 and Xbox 360. The ARP 2600: A Short Overview Part One

Here is a demonstration of the sound and functionality of the ARP 2600 analog synthesizer. Something about the source material (despite having been recorded in the same fashion as all of my videos) has resulted in the YouTube compression generating a lot of audio artifacts. No attempt I've made has resulted in a removal of this effect. Hopefully, you can listen past the effect of YouTubes compression to hear the sound of this synthesizer in these two videos! Hopefully, this problem won't exist in subsequent examples.

gAtari - Atari 2600 chipmusic project by cTrix @ Blip Festival Tokyo 2011

Artist at: www.facebook.com The "gAtari" was my excuse to do something a little silly after I discovered that the Atari 2600 was more limiting than I realized! (31 pitches, minimal waveforms and only 2 channels!) I needed an EQ which could take a high voltage and drop it down to line level (Boss bass EQ) plus a way to hold loops between tracks and parts (Boss delay). So rather than have it "DJ" style config, I thought I make something a little more creative. It uses my atari-x-mod converter software which compiles binary files for Atari. You can find a little video about it here: vimeo.com Big ups to Celsius / Trash80 / nf / Lazerbeat for the audio recording. Massive thankyou to sebastienvd81 & JDD3J for shooting additional video footage. Thanks to Wing / Celsius / Abrasive for their assistance and filming. Mega-thanks to Paul Slocum for the maco asm code for 2600 that I based my software around interfacing with :-) Come to Blip Festival Melbourne 2012! ps. ET the Extra-Terrestrial (Atari 2600) Walkthrough

This was made to be used in a review I made on this French site here: www.geekmodeblog.com I beat the game on the hardest difficulty, the one with the two bad guys, which is the default difficulty when you start the game anyway (note that this is not a very long game). This game is often reported as being the worst game on the Atari 2600 or even the worst video game ever, but here's a different opinion: www.randomterrain.com While it's bad in my opinion and the general opinion, I don't think it's the worst game ever since a lot of video games are at least as bad as this or worse (just check Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, it's barely playable and it's from 2003). Perhaps people remember this as the worst game because there were expectations for it (also meaning that a lot of copies of this game were produced) and also because Atari buried most cartridges in a New Mexico desert landfill. There is also the fact that the game came around the same time as the North American video game crash of 1983 (ET came out in 1982), people often citing this game as the cause of it. While not being the worst game, ET can be a frustrating and dull experience, but I hear there are fans of this game. I'll say that if I had played this as a child, I might have enjoyed it a bit. If you wonder what are the changing symbols at the top, they're not directions. When you extend your head, each symbol has a different effect. The arrows teleport you one screen in the direction they point. The thing ...

Classic Game Room - ATARI 2600 CARTRIDGE DESIGNS review

Classic Game Room HD reviews the various cartridge designs for videos games on the ATARI 2600 video computer system VCS. Games on the Atari came in many shapes and sizes like Combat, Berzerk, Yars' Revenge, Demon Attack and Q*Bert. Atari games are highly collectible today and many can be quite rare like Actionauts and SwordQuest Waterworld. They came in hard plastic shells like games for the Nintendo Entertainment System or NES, Sega Genesis and SNES, but these Atari games stand out because of the variety in physical styles from manufacturing. Do you want to start a collection of Atari 2600 games to have for years to come and enjoy? Do you playing old school retro games that are better than the newest games on the market? Then you NEED to learn to collect original Atari games, emulators will not do them justice. To actually hold the physical Atari game in your hand, plug it into your Atari 2600 and play it with an Atari controller is the real deal.

Classic Game Room - ATARI 2600 PRO-LINE TRAK-BALL review

Classic Game Room HD reviews the ATARI 2600 PRO-LINE TRAK-BALL for Atari 2600 and Atari 7800. This track ball for Atari is hardly the best trackball out there because the 2600 and 7800 do not support real analog trackballs. However it does a fairly good job simulating a track ball and adds a bit of that arcade-feel to games like Missile Command and Centipede. The Atari 2600 Pro-Line Trak-Ball is the Pro Line Trak Ball for professionals! Are you a professional Atari player? We all are. I found the trak-ball works better with the Atari 7800 but it may just be the units that I own. The Atari 2600 pro-line track-ball can be found online for an affordable price and makes a nice addition to any Atari 2600 collection. This review features an Atari 2600 Pro-Line Trak-Ball manufactured in El Pase Texas, in the US of A!!

Classic Game Room - ATARI 2600 DRIVING CONTROLLERS review

Classic Game Room HD reviews the Atari 2600 driving controllers for use with the video game, Indy 500. What is the difference between the Atari paddle controllers and the driving controllers? Watch this review featuring Stella the Classic Game Room dog. They are very similar of course, but there is a difference. When you find a rare game cartridge like Indy 500, which is an awesome old school retro arcade style F1 Formula One race car driving game, you'll NEED a driving controller to play it! These driving controllers do not work for the Playstation 3 PS3, Xbox 360 or Wii... sadly. Stella the Classic Game Room dog is a cute puppy, she's a German Shepherd Chow Chow mix breed adopted from the Humane Society. She likes Atari, food, chasing rabbits and food. So check out this comprehensive review of the driving controllers vs the paddle controllers with gameplay and footage worked into it. Ideally they will release GT5 Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (or the full version in 2009) for both the PS3 and the Atari 2600 with Driving Controller support.

While the original arcade machine (and cocktail sit down Centipede machine) had an amazing track ball allowing super precise game play and accuracy, this version of Centipede still handles well and is controlled with the standard Atari joystick or a myriad array of other compatible controllers. CGR uses a Sega Genesis gamepad to play Centipede. Shoot the Centipede bits, blast the spider, get extra lives every 10000 points and have a great time with this Atari classic. Classic Game Room HD - ACTIONAUTS on Atari 2600 review

Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of ACTIONAUTS for the Atari 2600 VCS video game system. The Atari was released in 1977, Actionauts was released in 2008 by its designer and programmer, Rob Fulop. In fact it is technically called Rob Fulop's Actionauts. The goal of the game is to guide a robot through various mazes to find a block of cheese! Sounds cheesy, hooray! It is fantastic to see a brand new game released on the Atari (even if it was designed in 1984) and come in such a nice box with great artwork. This is an extremely limited edition game and mine is # 191 out of 250 sold to the general public (shmucks like us!) For the Atari technical crowd out there, this game was played on the Atari 7800 Prosystem for the review and captured on good-old school VHS. Actionauts will be hard to find but for those of you who like old fashioned old school retro arcade style gaming this review should demonstrate an awesome soon to be classic video game that you may enjoy. Rob Fulop also programmed and designed other games that we've reviewed here including Demon Attack (one of the first HD series reviews), Cosmic Ark, Night Driver and Missile Command. Rob Fulop also designed the popular Sewer Shark available on the Sega CD. Will we ever see Actionauts on the PS3 or Xbox 360? Classic Game Room HD - DIG DUG for Atari 2600 review

Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of DIG DUG for the Atari 2600 VCS Video Computer System. Dig Dug is by Namco, the same people who brought you the amazing Pac Man and Xevious as well as the piece of trash called Ridge Racer 7. In fact they disgraced the awesome game Dig Dug by naming some stuff in RR7 after it.... bad. Dig Dug was released in 1982 in the arcades and was a very successful game and remains popular today. Dig Dug was ported onto the Atari 2600 in 1983. Dig Dug was also released for the Atari 7800 and even has a sequel called Dig Dug 2 (Electric Duggaloo) on the Nintendo Entertainment System NES. Your job as Dig Dug is to Dig and destroy enemy monsters who are trying to destroy you. Pump them full of air, watch them explode and then pour a 40 over their carcasses. Dig Dug is awesome retro old scool classic video gaming to the max. You can try, but you can't get much more awesome retro old school video gaming than Dig Dug. Pick up this affordable and fun Atari 2600 cartridge today and Dig it like you Dugging mean it. Classic Game Room was the original classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999-2000, now on DVD. The reviews on the HD series are reviewing PS3, PS2, Genesis, NES, Atari and Xbox 360. Classic Game Room HD - SPIDER-MAN for Atari 2600

Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room HD breaks out a review of SPIDER-MAN for the Atari 2600 video game console VCS. Do you remember the Spiderman comic books from back in the day? Did you watch the Spider Man and His Amazing Friends TV show where he was friends with Iceman and Firestar? Did you like the first Spiderman movie but not the other two? Well, SPIDERMAN the video game is FOR YOU! This game is a lot of fun and a rare cartridge for you Atari 2600 collectors out there to find in mint condition. You play as Spidey, everyone's favorite web slinger, and climb up the sides of buildings to defeat bad guys and disarm bombs. Watch out for the Green Goblin! Venom does not make an appearance in this game. Although there have been other SPIDERMAN video games and maybe even some for the Playstation 3, PS3, Xbox 360, PS2 and Wii, this game could be the best because of its simplicity and fun gameplay. Be the Amazing Spider Man from Marvel Comics, be the owner of this classic arcade style old school retro video game. Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. Atari 2600 Games That Don't Suck

Sometimes when you rediscover your childhood treasures, they aren't quite as polished when you are an adult. Have no fear! I take it upon myself this week to compile the Atari 2600 games that are still a lot of fun even today. In an age of 3D HD graphics, surround sound and multi-core processors, there is still a lot of fun to be had in many old Atari games from 30 years ago.
