The Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe (German: "Swallow") was the world's first operational turbojet fighter aircraft.It was produced in World War II and saw action starting in 1944 as a multi-role fighter/bomber/reconnaissance/interceptor warplane for the Luftwaffe. German pilots nicknamed it the "Sturmvogel," (Stormbird) while the Allies called it the "Turbo." The Me 262 had a negligible impact on the course of the war due to its late introduction, with 509 claimed Allied kills (although higher claims are sometimes made), against more than 100 Me 262 losses.

spiney.me.uk The first documented air combat involving an Me-262 took place on 25 July 1944, when a Schwalbe pounced on an RAF Mosquito that escaped only by the hardest. One Me-262 was shot down near Brussels on 28 August by a pair of USAAF P-47 Thunderbolts, the first Me-262 to be lost to direct enemy action. An operational fighter squadron, the "Kommando Nowotny", was established out of Erprobungskommando 262 in September 1944, under experienced ace Major Walter Nowotny. Kommando Nowotny became operational on 3 October. The Me-262 was highly vulnerable on takeoff and landing since the Jumo engines took a long time to throttle up, and since the engines tended to set asphault runways on fire, the Me-262 was restricted to operations at airfields with concrete runways. On 7 October two were shot down on takeoff by Lieutenant Urban L. Drew of the USAAF, flying a P-51 Mustang. The Luftwaffe eventually assigned FW-190s, when they were available and had fuel, to fly air patrols around the air bases to protect the Me-262s, and the airfields were ringed by heavy flak defenses. The flak installations were a mixed blessing, however, since they were often staffed by poorly-trained and nervous troops who were just as likely to fire on friends as foes. Over 1400 Me-262s were built, but only a relatively small portion of them ever saw action. Fuel was scarce, and Allied aircraft strafed and bombed at will. Taanya is a beautiful, intelligent and multi-faceted computer science student in Mumbai. As she is about to pass out of college, her parents begin to talk about her marriage. That's when she tells them that she likes a boy called Tej and wants to marry him. Tej also loves her but is reluctant to accept the proposal because of a problem in his family. While he does not want to cheat her by keeping the truth from her, he is scared of losing her if he tells her about his family's problem. His friends try to convince him that every family has some problem so he need not even mention it to Taanya. Finally, when Tej and Taanya's families meet, there seems to be no problem and the proposal is mutually agreed upon. A grand wedding takes place and Taanya arrives in her sasuraal. Erstflug der 3.Versuchsmaschine des Baumusters Me 262 erstmals mit Jumo 004 Triebwerken. Testpilot war Fritz Wendel. Fritz Wendels Kommentar nach dem Erstflug soll gewesen sein: "Es ist, als ob ein Engel schiebt." Die Me 262 wurde in der Nähe des Fliegerhostes in sog. "Waldfabriken" auf Taktstraßen serienmäßig Produziert und eingeflogen. Eine Leipheimer Me 262 wurde für dem amerikanischen Nachbau als Vorbild verwendet. Auch die Me 323 "Gigant" wurde in Leipheim mitentwickelt und serienmäßig gebaut. Im Film sind mehere Me 321 Lastensegler zu sehen. Die 321 war die Vorstufe zur Me 323. Eine Heinkel He-111Z stand als Schleppflugzeug am Fliegerhorst zur Verfügung.

Adolf Josef Ferdinand Galland (* 19. März 1912 in Westerholt, Westfalen; † 9. Februar 1996 in Remagen-Oberwinter) war Jagdflieger und Offizier der deutschen Luftwaffe im Zweiten Weltkrieg. Die Messerschmitt Bf 109 (meist fälschlicherweise als Me 109 bezeichnet) war ein einsitziges deutsches Jagdflugzeug der 1930er- und 1940er-Jahre. Sie war Vertreter einer neuen Generation von Tiefdecker-Jagdflugzeugen, die sich durch eine geschlossene Pilotenkanzel, Einziehfahrwerk und eine Ganzmetallkonstruktion von Rumpf und Tragflächen auszeichneten. Die Entwurfsarbeiten begannen 1934 unter Willy Messerschmitts Leitung bei den Bayerischen Flugzeugwerken in Haunstetten, woraus sich das Herstellerkürzel Bf ableitet. Der Erstflug fand im Mai 1935 statt; ab Februar 1937 wurde die Maschine bei der deutschen Luftwaffe in den Bestand der Jagdverbände eingegliedert. Bis zum Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs blieb sie, ab Mitte 1941 zusammen mit der Focke-Wulf Fw 190, das Standardjagdflugzeug der deutschen Luftwaffe. Auch bei zahlreichen anderen Luftwaffen kamen Flugzeuge dieses Musters zum Einsatz, z. B. in Finnland, Kroatien, Rumänien, Ungarn, Italien und der Schweiz.
