Zune 30gb fix/solution if it won't start/boot up (not frozen)
This is how I fixed my 30gb Zune (1st generation). It's not a frozen Zune like other people have experienced. It'll just restart over and over and it won't boot up. So replace the battery. I bought a replacement battery on ebay for $8. Hope this helps someone. Edit: Before buying the new battery, I first tried unplugging the original battery for 1 minute and then plugging it back in, in the hope that it would reset the zune, but that didn't work for me. These 1st generation zunes are so old that they need new batteries after many years of recharging and discharging after regular daily use. It seems that if the battery goes bad, then it won't allow the zune to boot up.

Our zunes are dying by the thousands as of midnight december 31st 2008. We need to get a fix and some sort of compensation from microsoft for this ridiculous issue resulting in bricking. Not everyone can or is willing to do this "hard reset" so thier hard drives will spin themselves to death. Zune users, DO NOT TURN ON OR PLUG YOUR ZUNES INTO A COMPUTER UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS FIXED. my rant is over now, please comment to show support for the anti-Z2K movement.

I based this off of OWCmacsales vid. Umm ok a few min later it kinda started to smell so i might have to take it apart. Either way this is an "idea" of how to replace it. The wire was probably not placed right. I kinda wanted to show the parts in detail tho for those who might be confused like i was. 30GB White iPod Video. Excellent shape, doesn't play music.
All the click wheel buttons work, the scrolling is great, and the overall condition is Excellent for it's age. However, music does not play. You can scroll through all the menu's, select any song you choose, and when the play/pause button is pressed, the play icon appears in the status bar as it should, but no sound comes from the headphones. The song status bar does not move either. It just won't play any song. I know that the hard drive works, as I can sync this iPod to iTunes and transfer music just like any other iPod. I've found a solution for this problem, but you lose all music from tour ipod so make sure to buck it up. turn your ipod to disk mode (press and hold the middle button and the play/pause button) while in disk mode connect your ipod to pc with iTunes on it, it should see the iPod and ask if you want to recover it to previous settings. It didn't work on my PC with Windows 7 but it worked on Windows XP.

Just a quick update on the zune situation. Edit: It is now 5:45pm GMT just after this finished uploading and microsoft has issued a statement basically saying that they are aware of the situation and to keep an eye out on the zune support site. My zune has now ran outta battery.
