Part 1 of 2. Classic Game Room HD reviews the SEGA 32X add-on for the Sega Genesis 16-bit video game console. Also available for the Sega Mega Drive, the 32X boosts the POWER of the Genesis.... or something like that. It plays 32X games which are typically larger, smoother and even better looking than awesome Sega Genesis video games. The 32X suffered from many problems though, not the least of which was its requirement to use two power supplies. The 32X works with the model 1 and model 2 Sega Genesis but requires a special 32X cable to work properly. The 32X is powered by the common Sega MK-3102 power supply and covers the player's room with wires and nonsense. Sega's biggest mistake? Even though the 32X was a commercial disaster and is regarded as a joke there are some amazing games available for the Sega 32X like Doom, Virtua Fighter, Virtua Racing Deluxe, Afterburner and Metal Head. The library of games is smaller than what you'll find for the Genesis but there are some real gems in there like Cosmic Carnage. If you can find the cables to make it work, pick up a 32X for a song these days and you'll be surprised at how good it actually is, even if it is a complete clusterf---.

By popular request, here's more random junk I've accumulated. These are miniature versions of the Sega 32X and Mega CD consoles. I found them on ebay and "accidentally" won them. From what I understand they were from some sort of Lik Sang exclusive celebration range. Something to do with acknowledging Sega's contribution to the home console market. I believe the full range included all the Sega consoles from the Mark III to the Dreamcast. Cool little collectables and very detailed. Although, sadly they're pretty poor build quality. Re-uploaded the video, as the last one that I put under Average Games caused outcry. I felt this game was okay but looking at it again it is quite good, despite the levels of strangeness in it. Anyway, you play as a grasshopper-like character named Tempo that attacks his enemies with Sound Energy and the game itself contains graphics with very smooth animation and the fact that they were hand-drawn rather than being done pixel by pixel. One feature I like in this game is that when Katy accompanies Tempo, more instruments to the level's music are added. In this video, Tempo is in the Downtown Performance level and at the end fights against a boss in the forum of a shoe which is one of the game's intended oddities. Another one is quite possibly the strangest moment of all at 4:17. I thank Addict for providing the footage of this and seeing as I didn't say much about the game, I have written a review about it which contains my honest opinions on it ~ s1.zetaboards.com

I collect loose Sega 32X game carts and have always wanted a better way to display and store my collection. I know you can buy specialist aftermarket Universal Game Cases (UGC) to store your retro game carts but they're difficult to source and very expensive. So, here's an idea I had to create a cheap and fun alternative by hacking a Nintendo DS case :). You can pick up these replacement cases reasonably cheap on ebay or you just harvest them from bargain bin DS games. You can easily find, download and print the boxart you need from a number of websites. I used thecoverproject.net and digitpress.com for mine. Thanks for watching!

Classic Game Room HD reviews the SEGA 32X CARTRIDGE DESIGN that is different from the standard Sega Genesis game cartridge. Rounder edges and a flashy yellow stripe are only the beginning. Styling cues and flashy packaging make these 32X games 32 times more extreme than Sega Genesis carts.

Chilly Willy, the same bloke who brought us the fabulous port of Wolf3D on the 32X has started work on porting a new 3D engine to the 32X! So far it looks pretty amazing. Keep in mind other "3D" games on the 32X like Wolf3D and Doom don't use true 3D engines, they use Ray Casting engines to fake the appearance of 3D rooms. Some of the true 3D games like Virtua Racing and Virtua Fighter lack textures and while a few games like Star Wars Arcade may have some textured polygons they are few and far between. This is a true 3D engine with a good variety of full textures and the level design is quite large and complex. Keep in mind this is a work in progress and nothing has been Assembly optimized for the 32X so the frame rate is very slow. I've always heard that some of the early "High Definition Graphics" model 1 Sega Genesis consoles can be prone to "rainbow banding" and that the video encoder in the 32X might provide better image quality. So I wanted to find out for myself in a side by side video comparison. In this case it's true, there is some rainbow banding in the Genesis and none on the 32X but the colors seem a little washed out in the 32X. See for yourself.
