An exclusive interview with Alexander Boden, the infamous 3D printer model maker who created a village in Minecraft and then recreating it as a small scale model (each block is only 1mm). He did this by working with his research colleague Sebastian Draxler, utilizing a variety of software tools and a (not inexpensive) Zprinter 650 - 3D printer, owned by the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) dept of Siegen University in Germany. As seen on the Objet Blog: blog.objet.com This 3D printed model of Fenway Park was created on an Objet Connex500 3D printer and featured on Fox Morning News to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park. The 3D printed model was created by successively laying down 16 micron layers of resin until the final part is built up into its final form. Each of the 40 seperate 3D printed pieces were then assembled. The final model weighs in at 105 pounds and is over three feet long.

A 3D model of a minecraft-village, exported directly out of the game world using a modified minecraft.print() script, colored using CAD software, and printed on a Zprinter 650. OK, so yep... the manufacturer recommends no bigger than 10cm cube for a part printed in ABS. Even at that size, you'll often get pretty bad warping. ...unless of course, you design your parts to not warp. Here's how I made some 20cm+ long parts. You don't have to make the holes nearly as big as I did. ....just big enough to break up the layers. I happen to also want to save material by having bigger holes. So... there ya go.
