Usain Bolt - New World Record - Jamaican Men's 4x100

In one whirlwind week, Usain Bolt turned the biggest disappointment of his career into another golden show capped with a world record that even he didn't think was within him. After opening with a false start in 100 final last Sunday, Usain Bolt again produced the amazing in his closing race of the world championships — anchoring Jamaica to a world record in the 4x100-meter relay. For the American men, it was more trouble in the relay. The USA failed to finish as Darvis Patton couldn't get the baton to anchor Walter Dix. At the 2008 Olympics, the USA didn't make the final after botching a handoff in the semifinal. Jamaica's yellow-green-and-black flag was the last one rising into the night over Daegu Stadium, and Bolt spread his giant arms wide to soak in the occasion with all his might. "For me, it was just to go out there fast," Bolt said. "We did just that." One day after winning gold in the 200, Bolt was devastating down the home stretch of the relay and threw his yellow-clad chest across the line for a time of 37.04 seconds — the only world record in nine days of competition. There was no more of the performance anxiety that pushed him into a false start in the 100, only a sheer release of power as he coasted down the stretch for an overwhelming win over France and Saint Kitts and Nevis. The United States was out of it by the last changeover, but no one could have gotten close to a Jamaican team anchored by Bolt. Ahead of the race, Bolt was already slapping the "JAM ...

Women's 4x100

USA, JAM battle in Visa Women's 4x100 The Visa women's 4x100m relay was equally exciting. Team USA had a slight lead at the first handoff, whenLisa Barber gave the stick to Allyson Felix. Running the second leg against the Olympic and World Outdoor silver medalist Kerron Stewart, Felix kept USA Blue in the lead. Miki Barber also maintained the lead. It looked like a shaky handoff to Carmelita Jeter on anchor, but the #2 all-time 100m runner out-ran Olympic and world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser to get USA Blue to the line first in 42.74. Jamaica was second in 42.94. The USA Red team of Tiffany Ofili, Ginnie (Powell) Crawford, Rachelle Boone-Smith and Alex Anderson was third in 43.69.
