A close-up look at one of my favorite revolvers, the .357 magnum 686 in 3" barrel. It's a very attractive gun, as well as a great little shooterl! You get a little education in this video about what "jumping the crimp" means. My case was old and had split; thus, loosening up the hold on the bullet. You might recall the news story last year about the guy who barely escaped death from a Grizzly attack in Alaska. He had a short barrel Ruger .454 with some very hot, heavy bullets. He got off a shot or two (maybe 3), but the recoil and a soft crimp on the bullet caused one of the heavy lead slugs to jump the crimp and hang up the cylinder, just as happens in this video. Fortunately, one of the few shots he had a chance to get off hit the bear in the head, I believe. Good thing, he was not going to be able to shoot again; that revolver was locked up. You might Google and find the story; I know Tom Gresham interviewed the guy about it.

This is a S&W 686 Plus, Plus meaning 7shot. It is a L frame revolver chambered in .357 magnum. Introduced in 1980, it was intended to be a improved alternative to the K frame .357's that Smith had made in the past. The K frames, while great guns (I know because I own one) had issues with flame cutting in the forcing cone area of the guns when using magnum loads on a regular basis. As a solution Smith built the L frame guns to solve that problem. The L frames can handle continuous use of magnum loads and should not experience any damage. If you are even remotely thinking of buying a 686, I strongly encourage you to get one. It is such a nice gun! I don't think you will be disappointed :) www.youtube.com

Smith and Wesson 686 plus shooting 357 magnum at Shore Shot Pistol Range in Lakewood. My "magnum flinch" is still giving me a hard time and causing my shots to hit even lower on the target than 38 special at 20-25 yards. I'm working on it though and towards the end it starts to minimize.

Developed in 1980, the Smith & Wesson 686 has been an iconic revolver and also the best selling firearm S&W has released. It is a show stopper for reliabilty and power. It's only drawback is it's weight and lack of firepower at only 7 rounds in the Plus model, but a superb home defense and hunting sidearm.

Here is my 2005 Raptor 660 bored out to a 686. awesome Raptor with a Trinity bigbore kit. The amount of money and time invested in the bike is just insane. Let me start by saying theres close to 10000 in all. The bike has a trinity bigbore 686 kit, je pistons, Hot cam, dyna ignition, full k&n kit, Dyno jet kit, and a Curtis Sparks full stainless steel exhaust (muffler and Pipe) along with a new hi performance clutch. I have alomost 2000.00 in engine work receipts alone. New Brake Fluid, oil and coolant change. Also New rear EBC brake Pad. Aluminum rear brake resorvoir cover. There is a brand new set of SS112 ITP chrome 10" rims and tires all the way around, they were 600.00 alone. There is a set of protaper bars with the trailtech endurance computer and dash mount, there is DG everything, front bumper, rear grab bar, nerf bars with pegs and black netting. Yamaha OEM shock covers, Custom Fender Yamaha logos in place where the warning signs are, There is a Cobra Aluminum swing arm skid plate along with Engine and A Arms, Billet Throttle and Brake reservoir covers, billet Flame Radioator Grill, GYTR frame GuardsAs you can see from the pictures its super super clean

It packs a punch!... But this gun has been reviewed to death! So, instead of boring you with yet another tabletop on a popular (deservedly so) firearm, Instead, I'm going to give you the specs, and give you my little "Destinee Angle: Should You Buy This." Here's my take on this: Guys, go for it! Revolvers have their own brand of fun entirely and Smith and Wesson is well known for making great revolvers. The 686P will give you seven rounds of big loud fun downrange. Girls: I'd say, "maybe." It is a heavy firearm, so the steel will soak up some of the recoil, but that .357 Magnum packs a huge punch. But hey, you can just put the light recoil .38 specials through it and have just as much fun with it. I guess that means my "maybe" leans toward "buy it!" It's just a fun piece, and revolvers are easy to take care of and operate. Of course, I'm only offering my opinion as a recreational target shooter. Hope you enjoyed it.
