AviationExplorer.com - NTSB investigating incident involving ATC request for a commercial plane to fly near non-responsive airplane. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating an incident involving a Southwest Airlines airplane that was requested to veer off course by Air Traffic Control to view into the cockpit of a general aviation airplane that had been out of radio communication. On Sunday, March 27, 2011, Southwest Airlines flight 821 -- a Boeing 737 -- was requested by Central Florida Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) to check on a Cirrus SR22 that had been out of radio contact for an hour. The TRACON vectored the Southwest Airlines commercial flight until visual contact was obtained with the Cirrus. The Southwest pilots reported seeing two people in the cockpit. The Southwest flight turned away and the air traffic controller then vectored the aircraft for its arrival at Orlando International Airport. Approximately thirty seconds later the Cirrus contacted Jacksonville Center who gave them the current frequency. Both aircraft landed safely at their destinations. In a statement, the FAA reported that preliminary information indicated that there was a loss of required separation between the two aircraft. The FAA has suspended the air traffic controller, who is a supervisor. Aerofloat-Nord Flight 821 crash kills 88 (Boeing 737-500)
A passenger jet caught fire early Sunday, exploded and crashed into railway tracks in the central Russian city of Perm, killing all 88 people on board. The exact cause of the pre-dawn crash is under investigation, but government spokesman Vladimir Markin said "a technical breakdown" was a likely cause. Markin said in televised remarks that the failure of one of the Boeing 737-500's two engines may have caused the plane to come down, The Associated Press reported. But Aeroflot is considered one of the safer airlines in the region. Sunday's crash is the first fatal accident for the airline since 1994, when a Russian pilot handed control of an Airbus to his 15-year-old son. It crashed, killing all 75 people on board. This is a sonata written by Schubert (obv!) It was written for the string instrument called the Arpegionne which came into 'fashion' around Schuberts time, and this really is the only known work for it. The instrument was not a success and it was almost immediately got rid of! Now, this sonata is most commonly played on the Cello or the Viola Played by the one and only Yuri Bashmet!

Sonata in A minor for arpeggione and piano, D. 821 (1824) I. Allegro moderato [0:00] II. Adagio [11:37] III. Allegretto [15:51] A work of chamber music by Austrian composer Franz Schubert (1797-1828). This sonata is very well known in transcriptions for cello and piano or viola and piano, but it is rarely played in its original version for arpeggione and piano. The arpeggione is a now defunct six-stringed bowed instrument with frets (essentially a bowed guitar), and Schubert's sonata is the only substantial composition for the instrument, which had been invented just one year earlier. Schubert's friend Vincenz Schuster, a virtuoso of the arpeggione, commissioned the sonata. This recording was made between 2000 and 2001 using a copy by Henning Aschauer of a 19th-century arpeggione built either by JG Staufer or by Anton Mitteis (part of the collection of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) and the 1824 Conrad Graf pianoforte from the Beethoven House in Bonn. Darwin Ye, viola Darwin Ye is 19 years old. At the age of 5, he began studying piano withAster Lai and violin with Mr. Tak-Ng Lai. Three years ago under the guidance of Mr. Lai, Darwin switched from playing the violin to the viola. At an early age, Darwin won numerous piano awards from many competitions such as the Kiwanis Music Festival, Scarborough Music Festival, and the Markham Music Festival. Darwin has been a member of the Toronto Cultural Youth Orchestra since 1999. Currently, he is the principal violist of the senior orchestra. Darwin is a graduate from Upper Canada College and is currently studying at McMaster University. He received first-class honors at the 7th Anniversary of York Region Media Group Celebration of the Arts in 2007.

Movement 1: Allegro moderato (Part I) The late Russian master Mstislav Rostropovich - one of the greatest cellists of all time - and English composer and pianist Benjamin Britten join forces in 1968 to play the exquisite Sonata in A minor for Arpeggione and Piano, D. 821, by Franz Schubert (1797-1828). Schubert composed the work for the arpeggione, a now-defunct instrument with six strings and frets (like a guitar) that was bowed like a viola da gamba. Nowadays, the work is most commonly played on the cello.
