I got a new pair of AKG K-99 headphones today. I have always been a big fan of AKG but this is the first pair I've had in a while. Having worked in radio for many years, I take headphones very seriously. I also use headphones for home listening way more than speakers. Ag good set of headphones can surpass the sound quality of even an expensive set of high end speakers. Plus, headphones don't bother anyone else when you're grooving late at night. Along with the AKG's, I'll talk about some of the other pairs I've collected over the years. Enjoy! :) JC

A little while back I was invited by Blue Microphones to shoot some video on a microphone shoot-out feature Blue's BOTTLE and Don Felder's (ex-Eagle) AKG C-12. This wasn't a marketing piece for Blue, merely a demonstration of what each of the two microphones sounded like. People and listen and make up their own mind. Personally, I was very impressed by the bottle. If I had the money to buy one or the other I would seriously lean toward the Bottle due to the different capsules it has, making it more flexible in a studio setting. Truth be told. I want both of them.

Microphone Shoot-Out! Between the Neumann TLM 103 ($1400) and the AKG C414XLii ($1050). Both Mics are condensers. For my budget both of these mics are High End (My apologies if you have a higher budget and consider these mid-range lol). This was the first Acoustic Microphone Shoot-Out! that I've done and plan to do more in the coming months. This video is made for anyone who is interested in purchasing one of these mics. There aren't a lot of samples for these mics online... hopefully others will make more videos. The Audio samples are very simple: Sound Hole and the 12th to 15th Fret. I could have done over the shoulder, fingers around the neck, or more towards the body... I felt that these two samples are cover enough for the acoustic. The guitar being used is a Gibson "Northern Jumbo" Limited Edition Custom Shop, only 65 were made. Everything is going through a Tascam US 1641 USB Audio Interface into an iMac 24" using logic Studio 9. The video was edited in Final Cut Studio... my apologies for the corny effects lol.
