Stranger On The Shore ~ Acker Bilk [HD]

Song: Stranger on the Shore Album: Sentimental Journey Real Name: Bernard Bilk (Acker" is a term for "friend"). Birth Date: January 28, 1929 Birth Place:Pensford Somerset, England Acker Bilk's official website, biography: www.ackersmusicagency.co.uk Acker Bilk, born Bernard Stanley Bilk in Somerset, England has been described as "Great Master of the Clarinet" This was the first song by a British artist to top the US charts. Believe it or not Acker's music has been enjoyed in Outer Space. A cassette belonging to Gene Cernan was flown around the moon in Apollo10. Bilk took up the clarinet in the UK Royal Army in 1958, in a band he formed called the Paramount Jazz Band. It's an instrumental song featuring Bilk's clarinet. As far as I know Acker Bilk is still alive today at the ripe old age of 82. God bless you and keep you safe Acker. Your music will live on forever. (Btw, Apollo 10 was the "first manned flight" of the lunar module around the moon. Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16 & 17 all landed on the moon. Apollo 13 moon landing was aborted after an oxygen tank exploded on board. The Apollo 18-20 missions were cancelled due to lack of funds. Unfortunately, all three crew members of Apollo 1 died in a training accident. www.funtrivia.com . Stranger On The Shore was originally named "Jenny" (after Acker's daughter), on his LP Sentimental Journey, the song's name was changed when Bilk played it as the theme song for a new children's TV show, Stranger On The Shore. Mr. Acker Bilk - Stranger On The Shore 1988 (Live)

"Stranger on the Shore" is a piece for clarinet written by Acker Bilk for his young daughter and originally named "Jenny" after her. It was subsequently used as the theme tune of a BBC TV drama serial for young people entitled Stranger on the Shore. Real Name: Bernard Bilk Birth Date: 28th January 1929 Birth Place:Pensford Somerset Bilk earned the nickname Acker from the Somerset slang for friend or 'mate'. His parents tried to have him learn the piano, but Bilk as a boy found it restricting upon his love of outdoor activities including football (soccer). He also lost two front teeth in a school fight and half a finger in a sledging accident, both of which Bilk has claimed impacted his eventual clarinet style. He eventually learned the clarinet while serving in the British Army, and by the mid-1950s he was playing professionally. Bilk has been described as "Great Master of the Clarinet" Here I stand, watching the tide go out So all alone and blue Just dreaming dreams of you I watched your ship As it sailed out to sea Taking all my dreams And taking all of me The sighing of the waves The wailing of the wind The tears in my eyes burn Pleading, "My love, return" Why, oh, why must I go on like this? Shall I just be a lonely Stranger on the Shore? The sighing of the waves The wailing of the wind The tears in my eyes burn Pleading, "My love, return" Why, oh, why must I go on like this? Shall I just be a lonely Stranger on the shore? Words by Robert Mellin

music: aria artist: acker bilk my comments about this video I believe in the creation account in Genesis and although I am sure those who think otherwise could ask me questions to which I could not give adequate answers, this in no way would change my faith that all we see anywhere in the universe - on earth or out in the vastness of space has been created by the God of the bible. I do not know how the universe ends - in a way I am not too bothered - it would be interesting to know but not vital - the important thing for me is having an inner assurance that God created it at a word by his son Jesus Christ and this video actually makes me stand in awe of the majesty of God and more than that I feel not a little tearful that God who created all this beauty sent Jesus Christ to this world to save sinners and that I am not only known personally to him, but for reasons known only to him, he so worked in my heart that with the hymnist I can truly say " you ask me how I know he lives - he lives within my heart". Not having intellectual understanding of many things cannot affect that nor take me away from him.

A multi-layered work featuring animation, archival footage and interviews with the likes of William Burroughs, Carolee Schneemann and Richard Hell, this is a thoughtful biography/essay on the late outlaw writer and punk icon, whose formally inventive novels, published from the 70s through the mid-90s, appropriated texts from Great White Male writers and challenged assumptions about gender roles, sexuality, and the literary canon. This film captures the essence of both Acker the writer and Acker the person, while celebrating the avant-garde legacy of an artist who forever expanded the limits of self-expression. Mr. Acker Bilk - "Stranger On The Shore" (1961)

Bernard Stanley "Acker" Bilk MBE (born 28 January 1929, Pensford, Somerset, England) is an English clarinetist. He is known for his trademark goatee, bowler hat, striped waistcoat and his breathy, vibrato-rich, lower-register clarinet style. Bilk earned the nickname Acker from the Somerset slang for 'friend' or 'mate'. His parents tried to have him learn the piano, but Bilk as a boy found it restricting upon his love of outdoor activities including football. He also lost two front teeth in a school fight and half a finger in a sledging accident, both of which Bilk has claimed to have affected his eventual clarinet style. He learned the clarinet while serving in the Royal Engineers in the Suez Canal Zone, and by the mid-1950s he was playing professionally. Bilk was part of the boom in traditional jazz that swept the United Kingdom in the late 1950s. He first joined Ken Colyer's band in 1954, and then formed his own ensemble, The Paramount Jazz Band, in 1956. Four years later, his single "Summer Set" (a pun on his home county) hit the British charts and it began a run of eleven top 50 hit singles. Bilk has been described as "Great Master of the Clarinet" and is often said to be the originator of 'Hyung-Tiger' playing, often copied by such artists as Johnny Range and Ted Morton. His clarinet sound and style was at least as singular as had been those of American jazzmen such as Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, and Russell Procope, and "Stranger on the Shore" -- which he was once ...

Acker Bilk - Stranger On The Shore (Original Stereo)

This British clarinetist was born Bernard Stanley Bilk and he earned the nickname "Acker" from a slang word in Somerset for "friend" or "mate". His composition and recording of "Stranger On The Shore" vaulted Acker to fame and fortune in April of 1962 as it went to #1 in both Britain and the US. In fact, this recording stayed on the UK charts for an astonishing 55 weeks, and is one of the prettiest instrumentals ever recorded in pop history.
ACKER BILK - La PALOMA

A popular song composed and written by Spanish composer Sebastian Iradier in 1863. The motif of 'La Paloma' (the dove) can be traced back to an episode that occurred in 492 BC preliminary to Darius' invasion of Greece, a time when the white dove had not yet seen in Europe. The Persian fleet under Mardonius was caught in a storm off the shore of Mt. Althos and being wrecked when the Greeks observed white doves escaping from the sinking Persian ships. This inspired the notion that such birds bring home a final message of love from a sailor who is lost at sea. This theme that a final link of love overcomes death and separation is reflected in 'La Paloma'. Bernard Stanley "Acker" Bilk (1929 - ) is a well-known English clarinetist. **UMG owned the sound recording of this video. No copyright infringement intended.

Mr. Acker Bilk - Creole Love Call

A suitcase open on the floor Of room eleven-eighty-four Your picture lying by the phone It's close to morning and I'm lonely No one around to care So I stare at these walls I know some people here in town And they were showing me around They knew the happ'nin' place to go We laughed and got a little loaded But now I want you near Baby hear my love call The moon is misty and grey It never seemed so far away I'll touch you again But not tomorrow Then face to face we'll lie Our goodbye just a memory A suitcase open on the floor Of room eleven-eighty-four I know, as I lie very still I dreamt your scent was on the pillow Too soon to disappear Baby hear my love call
