Nikon Autofocus Setting for Action

This video explains into depth about how to set your camera properly for action shots since there are many sports photographers who aren't happy with their own products that they paid over $3000 for. This video helps you to get action shots in focus (football, birds, wildlife, portraits, etc.). Enjoy! Note: Nikon D3's 10 and 11 FPS options will disable autofocusing. This video is an example how to capture action with autofocusing enabled. If you require autofocusing, do not use 10 or 11 FPS options. Update: Sorry for a mistake in the video, use Dynamic Area AF for 3D Tracking, NOT Auto Area. Music: Miserable Lie by The Smiths and Freddie Freeloader by Miles Davis

Red Bull Illume followed photographer Vitek Ludvik from the Czech Republic on his shoot with Olympic kayaker Vavra Hradilek to find out how he got a great shot in the rapids - without getting his camera wet. The brief was to get a close up picture where you can see Vavra's face and kayak in action. Check the video to see how it was done. for more awesome shots check out RedBullIllume.com

Visual effects of The Transformers

This video is not mine, it belongs completely to the owners. I only put it on YouTube so more people can see it. Digital Domain completed nearly 100 visual effects shots, including the character animation of several robots, for the release of Michael Bays Transformers. Among the robots created by Digital Domains animation team was the severed head of Decepticon Frenzy, as well as robots that transform into objects such as a cell phone, a steering wheel and a vending machine. Digital Domain was also awarded shots of the Autobots earthly arrival in the form of asteroids and a flashback sequence set in the Arctic Circle. Following an intense battle with Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) and Mikaela Banes (Megan Fox), Frenzy is decapitated by a circular saw and the severed head becomes a crab-like robot determined to reconnect with the rest of its body. By disguising itself as a cell phone, Frenzy is able to transform and stow away undetected in Mikaelas purse. Digital Domain tackled the robotic animation of Frenzys head in concert with director Michael Bay and integrated the character into live-action photography filmed at the Hoover Dam and other locales. David Prescott, visual effects supervisor at Digital Domain, oversaw the work along with animation supervisor Dan Taylor and visual effects producer David James. Also animated by Digital Domain was the Nokia-bot, a cell phone transformed into a tiny warrior by the Allspark cubes energy, as well as the Mountain Dew-bot, a vending ...

Freezing Action - A Lighting Lesson in Mexico City

By Jay P. Morgan. I had the opportunity to shoot Rafael Marquez in Mexico City for the FMF. He is a world class soccer player for Mexico and a great guy. We were going to shoot several shots that would need to freeze him in mid air as he kicked the ball. We had limited time with him so it was necessary that things were planed out and ready to go when he arrived. We took two Hensel speed max heads that have the fastest flash duration of any mono block head available. The goal was to use them as our key lights and freeze his action in mid air. We shot background plates the day before at the ruins outside of Mexico City for him to be retouched into. The idea being famous soccer players in action shots at different iconic sites of Mexico. The retouching is worth taking a look at on our Facebook page. I got Julene to talk about how she did the work. Go to www.facebook.com/theslantedlens1 to see her video. It was a great shoot and I hope you enjoy the video. Check out my Twitter @theslandlens to enter in our photography gear giveaway featuring products from Custom SLR (www.customslr.com.)
