African American singer Jill Scott doesn't like interracial dating

Jill Scott has reportedly said that her "soul burns" every time she see a "successful black man with a white woman". In an interview with Essence magazine, the R&B-soul singer-songwriter said that she wished that a male, African-American friend was married to a black, rather than a Caucasian, woman. Scott wrote: "My new friend is handsome, African-American, intelligent and seemingly wealthy. He is an athlete, loves his momma, and is happily married to a white woman. I admit when I saw his wedding ring, I privately hoped. But something in me just knew he didn't marry a sister. Although my guess hit the mark, when my friend told me his wife was indeed Caucasian, I felt my spirit wince. I didn't immediately understand it. My face read happy for you. My body showed no reaction to my inner pinch, but the sting was there, quiet like a mosquito under a summer dress." She continued: "Was I jealous? Did the reality of his relationship somehow diminish his soul's credibility? The answer is not simple. One could easily dispel the wince as racist or separatist, but that's not how I was brought up. I was reared in a Jehovah's Witness household. I was taught that every man should be judged by his deeds and not his color and I firmly stand where my grandmother left me. African people worldwide are known to be welcoming and open-minded. We share our culture sometimes to our own peril and most of us love the very notion of love. My position is that for women of color, this very common ...

McDonald's Charging African-Americans More?

McDonald's was recently the victim of a hoax in which a letter was posted at the fast food chain's restaurant claiming that McDonald's is charging African-American customers more. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian discuss and get to the bottom of who was behind this hoax. Facebook: www.facebook.com Subscribe: bit.ly TYT Mobile: bit.ly Twitter: twitter.com www.theyoungturks.com FREE Movies(!): www.netflix.com Read Ana's blog and subscribe at: www.examiner.com Read Cenk's Blog: www.huffingtonpost.com It's not the first time an inflammatory, outrageous sign claiming to charge African-Americans an extra $1.50 at McDonald's has surfaced on Twitter. But a year after it first appeared, the twitpic popped up again as the most trending Twitter topic over the weekend, prompting McDonald's to go into damage control and clarify that it was, indeed, a hoax. The sign reads, "As an insurance measure due in part to a recent string of robberies, African-American customers are now required to pay an additional fee of $1.50 per transaction." McDonald's tweeted back saying, "That Seriously McDonalds picture is a hoax," and responded to irate Tweeps who believed the prank with the tweet: "A senseless & ignorant hoax. We value all customers. Diversity runs deep in our culture - on both sides of the counter." TechCrunch elaborated on the incident by pointing out that McDonald's was a victim of 'churnalism' or 'hamsterization' journalism, where stories are reposted in the absence of verifying facts ...

African Americans in World War II: A Legacy of Patriotism and Valor - Part 1 (1997)

1997 www.amazon.com Watch the full film: thefilmarchived.blogspot.com The US armed forces remained segregated during World War I. Still, many African Americans eagerly volunteered to join the Allied cause following America's entry into the war. More than two million African American men rushed to register for the draft. By the time of the armistice with Germany in November 1918, over 350000 African Americans had served with the American Expeditionary Force in on the Western Front. Most African American units were relegated to support roles and did not see combat. Still, African Americans played a minor role in America's war effort. Four African American regiments were integrated into French units because the French suffered heavy losses and badly needed men after three years of a terrible war. One of the most distinguished units was the 369th Infantry Regiment, known as the "Harlem Hellfighters", which was on the front lines for six months, longer than any other American unit in the war. 171 members of the 369th were awarded the Legion of Merit. 157th IDRed Hand flag drawn by General Mariano Goybet The 371st and 372nd African American Regiments were integrated under the 157th Red Hand Division commanded by the French General Mariano Goybet. They earned glory in the decisive final offensive in Champagne region of France. The two Regiments were decorated by the French Croix de Guerre for their gallantry in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. American Soul: The DuSable Museum of African-American History

Founded in 1961, the DuSable is one of the first African-American museums in the country. The museum follows African-American history from its beginning on the shores of Africa to a celebration of African-American achievements including Bessie Coleman, the nations first black female aviator; World War II Tuskegee airmen; Major Robert Lawrence, the nations first black astronaut; and Harold Washington, Chicagos first black mayor. The museum is dedicated to the collection, preservation, interpretation, and dissemination of the history and culture of Africans and Americans of African descent. Weaving themes of art, history, and diversity, it also tells us Whats American about Americans? and What Shall I Tell My Children who are Black? Enjoy the DuSables treasures and think on the distorted images we have been given, ultimately learning why the children shall lead us.

Dennis Prager: African Americans are angry, emotional and stupid

When I first tuned in, Prager was taking issue with an article he found, authored by an African-American woman. I didn't catch the beginning of the discussion, but I gathered that he was disturbed by the writer's take on race. A few minutes later, he took a call from a woman because he said it proved his point. The caller was a white woman that had been married to a black man for 10 years, had a couple of children with him, but was forced into divorce because of his drug addiction. Evidently, at some point during the divorce proceedings, the husband accused her of racism. Reviewing: an man on drugs in the midst of a difficult and emotional divorce said something stupid. Worthy of broadcast to millions, right? Ironclad proof of everything conservatives have ever said about the African-American mindset, right? After that, Prager briefly lamented a common "regret" among conservatives and Republicans. You hear it all the time on talk radio: black Americans only vote Democrat because they've been duped about one of two things. Either they've been lied to about true nature of conservativism (MLK would have been a Republican today, donchyaknow?), or they've been mislead into believing that Democrats care about their issues (the reality is, of course, that Democrats are the true racists). They've been duped. According to right-wing talk radio (and plenty of Republican politicians), well over 90% of African-Americans are easily fooled suckers. You might even say they are stupid ...

Eve Carson, UNC Student, Asked Her African American Killers To Pray With Her, Witness Says

A witness testifying in the murder trial of Laurence Alvin Lovette Jr. has made a startling claim about the victim's last moments. Raleigh local station WRAL reports that Jayson McNeil testified Lovette told him that University of North Carolina student Eve Carson asked him to pray with her before she was murdered. "Before (Lovette) even shot her, he explained, she was saying, 'Let's pray,'" McNeil said, according to WRAL. "She wanted them to pray together." In March 2008, prosecutors say that Lovette and Demario Atwater kidnapped Carson, drove her to various ATMs to withdraw money and then shot her five times, killing the former student body president, according to WRAL. Atwater pleaded guilty last year to crimes connected to the killing and is currently serving two life sentences. ABC reports that Carson's body was found in the middle of a Chapel Hill street the same day she was murdered. www.huffingtonpost.com
