Guitar: Jan Akkerman Bass: Wilbrand Meischke Drum: Ton Dijkman Keyboard: Jeroen Rietbergen Jan Akkerman (born 24 December 1946, Amsterdam, Netherlands) is a Dutch guitarist. jan Akkerman is a distinctive guitarist, constantly experimenting with new equipment and guitars. Jan Akkerman was born in the 'Jordaan' area of Amsterdam as the son of a scrap iron trader. At age five he took guitar lessons and his first single was released when he was fourteen years old. He was a member of Johnny and The Cellar Rockers, The Hunters and Brainbox, and joined the Thijs van Leer Trio in late 1969. They continued under the name Focus and scored a few worldwide hits in the seventies. In 1973 Jan Akkerman was chosen 'Best Guitarist in The World' by the readers of the UK magazine, Melody Maker. His standing was such that he teamed up with manufacturer Framus to produce one of the first 'signature' guitar models. In 1976 Jan Akkerman left Focus and continued his solo career, and collaborations with other musicians.

Spike van Di-rect ziet Tim Akkermans, de oude voorman van de formatie, nog nauwelijks. De twee zaten bijna een decennium lang bij elkaar in de band, maar leven inmiddels een te verschillend leven om nog tijd voor elkaar vrij te maken. 'Hij is druk, ik ben druk, maar dat mag natuurlijk geen excuus zijn', zegt Spike, die dit weekend in Rusland vertoerft, voor een kort optreden met zijn 'hobbybandje' The Deaf. 'Het is wel bijzonder om te zien hoe snel vriendschappen verwateren als je niet in elkaar investeert.' 'Tim was radicaal in zijn beslissing om de band te verlaten', vervolgt hij. 'Je kunt er ook voor kiezen om dingen te combineren. Hij besloot zijn kans te grijpen. Dat vind ik dapper.' Volgende week gaat Di-rect de studio in om een volgend studioalbum op te nemen.
