Al-Andalus : Alhambra Palace

Al-Andalus (Arabic: الأندلس) was the Arabic name given to those parts of the Iberian Peninsula governed by Muslims, at various times in the period between 711 and 1492. It refers to the Umayyad Caliphate province (711-750), Emirate of Cordoba (c. 750-929) and Caliphate of Cordoba (929-1031) and its "taifa" ("successor") kingdoms. The Alhambra (Arabic: الحمراء ; literally "the red") is a palace and fortress complex of the Moorish monarchs of Granada, in southern Spain (known as Al-Andalus when the fortress was constructed), occupying a hilly terrace on the south-eastern border of the city of Granada. It was the residence of the Muslim kings of Granada and their court, but is currently a museum exhibiting exquisite Islamic architecture. Related Video: An Islamic History of Europe www.youtube.com

Al-Andalus : The Mezquita (Cordoba Mosque)

Al-Andalus (Arabic: الأندلس) was the Arabic name given to those parts of the Iberian Peninsula governed by Muslims, at various times in the period between 711 and 1492. It refers to the Umayyad Caliphate province (711-750), Emirate of Cordoba (c. 750-929) and Caliphate of Cordoba (929-1031) and its "taifa" ("successor") kingdoms. As the Iberian Peninsula was eventually regained by Christians re-expanding southward in the process known as the Reconquista, the name Al-Andalus came to refer to the Muslim-dominated lands of the former Visigothic Hispania. In 1236, the Reconquista progressed to the last remaining Islamic stronghold, Granada, achieved by the forces of Ferdinand III of Castile. Granada was a vassal state to Castile for the next 256 years, until January 2, 1492, when Boabdil surrendered complete control of Granada to Ferdinand and Isabella, Los Reyes Cat?licos ("The Catholic Monarchs"). The Portuguese Reconquista culminated in 1249 with the conquest of Algarve by Afonso III. The Mezquita (Spanish word for "mosque") dates back to the 10th century when Cordoba reached its zenith under a new emir, Abd ar-Rahman III who was one of the great rulers of Islamic history. At this time Cordoba was the largest, most prosperous cities of Europe. Related Video: An Islamic History of Europe www.youtube.com

The Rise and Fall of Al-Andalus (Muslim Spain) - Tawfique Chowdhury

Early in the eighth century, armies from North Africa began probing the Visigothic defences of Spain and ultimately they initiated the Moorish epoch that would last for centuries. The people who became known to West Europeans as Moors were the Arabs, who had swept across North Africa from their Middle Eastern homeland, and the Berbers, inhabitants of Morocco who had been conquered by the Arabs and converted to Islam. Muslims took control of Spain under the great leader Tariq-Bin-Ziyaad whose rule helped advance many fields including science and medicine. Roads were built with working sewer systems and the most beautiful of gardens were built. This lecture goes through the rise of Andalus, followed by the downfall of Andlaus which was a result of many different personalities. Abu Yusuf Tawfique Chowdhury was born in Bangladesh. He spent most of his childhood in Saudi Arabia before moving to Australia where he now resides. He graduated from high school earning the academic prize for excellence, attaining the third highest rank in Australia. He then went on to study at the University of Madinah, where he graduated in Arabic and Shariah with distinction. He is currently completing his studies in medicine at Brisbane University. Tawfique is also the director of AlKauthar institute (www.alkauthar.org) which aims to deliver unique Islamic courses suited to Muslims living in the West. Abdullah al Andalusi vs Dr James White: Does the Trinity equal polytheism?

Radio debate between Abdullah and Christian apologist, Dr James White on the topic: Does the Trinity necessitate polytheism? Debate held on Christian Premier Radio, the programme was aired 15th November 2008 Here is a Christian's blog writer's (known as 'Apologiaphoenix') appraisal of the debate: "Honestly, I don't think James White did great on this and was disappointed by him. It seems he never answered the rational objections that were given but just said "The Bible teaches this." Yeah. That's what the Bible teaches, but if the Muslim already believed what the Bible teaches, we wouldn't have this problem? Not to say that the Muslim did much better. I found him quite unconvincing, though it has been awhile since I last listened." His comment can be found on the theology web forum: www.theologyweb.com
