www.ntv.co.ke It is now emerging the vast majority of the recruits in the Al-Shabaab are Kenyans from different tribes with only a handful from ethnic Somali communities, a day when two suspects were released after surrendering to the police following links to the militant group. Our reporter Jane Ngoiri spoke to a parent of the youth released who had been recruited by the Islamist group to fight in Somalia.

Al-Shabaab sends assassins into Kenya

Al Shabaab war claims first casualties


www.ntv.co.ke The government has confirmed the death of five soldiers after a helicopter they were flying in crashed shortly after taking off from Liboi military base near the common border with Somalia. A brief statement from the department of defence stated that the helicopter was part of the ongoing mission to flash out Al Shabaab militants. Al-Shabab mark Eid in Mogadishu


Al-Shabab, Somalia's Islamist rebel group, have given Al Jazeera exclusive access to film them in Mogadishu during the end of Ramadan. Despite their withdrawal from the capital, they say the move is purely tactical and they were able to celebrate Eid in the city. Shabab members told Al Jazeera that the group remains "fully in control" in some parts of the capital and that they have secretly infiltrated others. Al Jazeera's Rosie Garthwaite reports.

But tonight, the government says it's not at war with Somalia but it's only helping her North Eastern neighbour to stabilize. Foreign affairs minister Moses Wetangula, who has returned from Mogadishu, said the ongoing operation is aimed at ensuring the security of not only Kenyans, but the people of Somalia. As Jane Kiyo reports, both Kenya and Somalia's transitional federal government, which has pledged its support for the operation, have agreed on a common strategy to wipe out the Al Shabaab militia.

African Union denies Al Shabab's claims of peacekeepers killing

Al Shabaab suspect pleads guilty to arms possession charges

Alert Issued Over Al Shabaab Threat


It is becoming clearer that the threat by Al Shabaab militia to strike Kenya in retaliation over its military incursion into Somalia, in pursuit of the terror gang, is all the more real. The government has beefed up security around defence minister Yusuf Haji and Deputy House Speaker Farah Maalim, following threats by Al Shabaab to assassinate the two Kenyan leaders. The two have since presented the details of the threats on their lives to the ministry of internal security. Permanent secretary Francis Kimemia is also assuring the country that intelligence and security officers have stepped up surveillance in areas likely to be targeted by the terror gang. Two Kenyan doctors in held over Al Shabaab link

Al-Shabab claims deadly Mogadishu blast


A bomb blast outside a government compound in Mogadishu has killed at least 70 people and left many others wounded, in one of Somalia's deadliest ever suicide attacks, officials and witnesses said. Tuesday's attack was claimed by al-Shabab, the armed anti-government group, and came as the rebels launched attacks in the country's west and south. Al Jazeera's Caroline Malone reports.

Lucky Escape From Al Shabaab


6 Kenyan fishermen returning from the Indian Ocean were abducted by heavily armed suspected Al Shabaab militiamen in Ngomeni area, Magarini district at the Coast. The fishermen say that they were intercepted by 9 heavily armed men with a speedboat, but one of the fishermen managed to escape. The other five were later released at sea and swam ashore. This comes even as Kenya is involved in a military offensive to weed out the Al Shabaab militia group, with Ethiopian troops said to have joined the operation. Meanwhile the Kenya Defence Forces say that they have destroyed 2 Al Shabaab training facilities at the Hola Wajeer area in Badade district, South of Somalia. Sheila Sendeyo has the latest.

UN punishes Eritrea for supporting Al Shabaab

In one of the liberated towns in the south, only the telephone infrastructure seems to have survived Al-Shabaab reign. Buurgabo still has a functional telephone communication system. Al shabaab linked with 66-year-old French lady abduction


www.ntv.co.ke A 66-year-old French citizen is now the second foreigner to be kidnapped by suspected Al shabaab combatants operating along the Kenya-somalia border. According to the Internal Security Minister Prof. George Saitoti, the abduction took place early this morning. The kidnappers launched their assault from Ras Chiamboni, across the border from Kenya, and were able to escape capture by Kenya Navy officers.

Mogadishu residents rebuild after al-Shabaab departure


On October 11, African Union troops and soldiers from Somalia's Transitional Federal Government pushed Al-Shabaab rebels out of their last remaining stronghold in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
