Dramatic footage of fresh clashes in Tunisia as police fire tear gas

Tunisian police on Wednesday fired tear gas at hundreds of protesters in the capital who are pressuring the interim government to get rid of allies of ousted President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. The clashes broke out in front of the prime minister's office as the caretaker government prepared to announce adjustments to its line-up. Acrid clouds of tear gas engulfed hundreds of protesters, and some demonstrators responded by throwing stones at police.

RT - Clashes on Serbia-Kosovo border: 10 wounded

A NATO spokesperson has confirmed that its troops fired on Serb protesters in the Mitrovica region. According to the statement, they were responding to an attack by the crowd. Figures for the number of wounded vary, but hospital officials say at least six Serb protesters and four NATO soldiers were injured. The Alliance's representative in Kosovo, Kai Gudenoge, said Serb protesters threw pipe bombs at troops stationed along the border between Serbia and Kosovo. One soldier had to be evacuated for treatment due to the gravity of his injuries. Three others are being treated locally. The Serbian side, however, claims the attack was initiated by the KFOR peacekeepers. Eyewitnesses claim the troops fired tear gas and rubber bullets to try and disperse a crowd protesting at the Kosovar government's attempt to take over two border crossings in the north previously controlled by neighboring Serbia. According to Serb officials, at least 14 protesters were injured -- and doctors view their condition as "very serious". According to Serbian-Canadian documentary filmmaker Boris Malagursky, KFOR's efforts did not stop with rubber bullets and tear gas. "At the moment, German KFOR soldiers are putting barbed wire around entire Serbian communities, turning them essentially into ghettos," Malagursky told RT. "And the last time we saw German soldiers setting up barbed wire was during the World War II." "NATO is not really contributing to the peaceful resolution of the problem," Malagursky ...

Liberating Preševo - 2001

Video made by me ---------------- In 2001, as a follow-up to the Kosovo crisis, there were reported clashes between Yugoslav security forces and ethnic Albanian guerillas linked to the KLA. The aim of the movement was to take full control of Preševo and Bujanovac (and Medveđa outside of the valley but through the same campaign) and hold them until such time as the adjacent lands, Kosovo and Western Macedonia, also came under Albanian fire. Serb forces quickly crushed UPCMB, and the remaining units surrendered to the US at Kosovo i Metohija checkpoint.

Clash of Civilizations - Refugees 難民

Refugees - The song "Refugees" is dedicated to the plight of millions of refugees across the world and their irrefutable human right to be able to return home. clashofcivilizationsmusic.com For centuries, a harmful myth has been perpetuated that we live in a divided world, that there are fundamental differences between races, cultures, and civilizations, and that this divide can only be bridged by military, economic, or cultural domination. The Clash of Civilizations collective represents one effort to challenge this myth by illustrating the common musical bonds found within all cultures. This is an electronic music project created by two friends, Boston-based composers and music producers Milan Kovacev and Nikola Radan. The goal of the collective is to create unity and harmony by clashing various music from around the world traditional voices, historic samples and melodies, (some dating back hundreds of years), and original native instruments. These separate pieces are seamlessly melded together to create something entirely new and harmonious, something that as a whole is more powerful and moving than its separate parts. Clash of Civilizations project involves creative musicians and performers from USA, Iran, Israel, Turkey, Cyprus, France, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Albania and Serbia, all currently based in Boston and New York. Entry from: Prizren, Serbia and Montenegro Entry Title: "Pretty in Prizren" Entry: "We were sorry to leave Pristina yesterday and took our time getting to the bus station, bidding a fond farewell to the professor's pensione. We had been recomended a visit to Prizren by the owner of our hostel in Sarajevo, a Kosovar woman who told us that it was a beautiful town with lots of the Turkish Ottoman houses and old mosques still intact. After a bumpy but beautiful bus ride, we arrived in Prizren, near the Albanian border, to discover that unlike Pristina, virtually no one here spoke English. The KFOR troops in this part of Kosovo are German or Turkish, and there are no English-speaking tourists, so we stumbled along with our mangled Albanian, two words of German and enthusiastic hand gestures and managed to get a local kid to take us to a hotel near the bus station. The owners of the hotel seemed surprised to see us, but were very friendly and showed us to a room and we dropped our bags and headed out. Despite the recent ugliness of the 2004 clashes here and the burned out shells of Serb homes on the hills around the town, Prizren is a pretty town with ancient mosques and hamams, lots of outdoor cafes along a river, and a ruined 15th century fortress on the hill overlooking the town. Serbs attack USA Slovenia Embassy after Kosovo Independence

Serbs attack USA Slovenia Embassy after Kosovo Independence Hundreds of protesters clashed with Serbian police on Sunday evening, hours after Kosovo's leaders unilaterally declared the province's independence from Serbia. At least 12 protesters, mainly fans of local soccer clubs and skinheads, were injured and arrested in several skirmishes in the Serbian capital. The crowd damaged the Slovenian embassy, a McDonald's restaurant and about a dozen shop windows. "We hate the West, we hate Western values and civilization," said a club-wielding protestor who identified himself as Nikola. They chanted «Kosovo is Serbia» and slogans against Kosovo Albanians, Serbian President Boris Tadic and pro-Western opposition leaders, but also against conservative Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica. Masked thugs chanted the name of the Bosnian Serb military leader Ratko Mladic, accused of genocide in the Bosnian 1992-95 war, who is still at large. Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets in a skirmish at the downtown Terazije square, forcing the crowd to disperse, leaving overturned garbage containers, broken glass, stone fragments and other debris behind. Eyewitnesses said that protesters stoned the Belgrade headquarters of the opposition Liberal Democratic Party, the only Serbian political party that has supported the possibility of Kosovo's independence, and a nearby café. B92 television reported that at 9 pm several groups were still in the streets, regrouping and returning to places ...

Kosovo steps up lobby for EU membership after Serbia customs deal

Kosovo is stepping up its lobby to start talks about membership of the European Union after it reach breakthrough in its customs dispute with Serbia. Its president came to Brussels for the first time last week for high-level talks with officials at all key European institutions. Greece, Spain and Serbia are some of the countries that dont recognize Kosovo as an independent state. Kosovo is still seeing interethnic violence, even as recent as a month ago, with clashes at the Kosovo-Serbian border. It's clear that much needs to be done before it's possible to speak about a normalized situation. But Kosovo's President feels it's destined to join the union. The European parliament remains concerned about continued evidence of corruption in Pristina and its surroundings. Council President Herman van Rompuy said he was pleased to see 'a European solution,' to a trade dispute with Serbia, reaching an agreement over customs stamps. Van Rompuy urged the president of Kosovo to make further progress to uphold the rule of law and fight organised crime and corruption in order to "steadily bring Kosovo closer to the EU". Kosovo, as a generally ethnic Albanian region, declared independence from Serbia in 2008. Serbs living in Kosovo, most Christian orthodox, continue to complain about harsh discrimination by the mostly Muslim Albanian majority.

And hundreds of them are staging a protest in the northern city of Mitrovica to protest against Kosovo's plans. EU police and NATO-led troops have been deployed to the two sites. Cops in Crowd: Once-Feared Police Join Protests in Tunisia

Tunisia's once-feared police, who carried out the repressive policies of their now exiled president, were joining forces with protesters on Saturday as they marched through the streets of the capital. Some non-uniformed officers, wearing red armbands to distinguish themselves from civilians, led a protest in Tunis on Saturday to call for the creation of a police union and greater rights and pay. Saturday's development was significant because, while the army is respected, police were feared during the 23-year reign of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, who fled eight days ago to Saudi Arabia after a month of deadly riots around the country.
