Algonquin 8 Day Canoe Trip - Part 1 of 2

This is an eight day trip I did in Algonquin Provincial Park with a friend of mine in 2008. For those who are familiar with my videos, I'm sorry to say that Maddy (the Goose) was not able to join us on this trip. With a 16 foot canoe, two people, and gear and food for eight days we simply ran out of room. It just wasn't the same without her and I hope to not exclude her from any future trips. It's also worth noting that there is little to no video specifically of my friend or myself. I intentionally did it this way since I don't want these videos to be about my buddy and I so much as I want to simply capture the trip and the feeling of being there. Hope you enjoy! Cheers, Troy

Algonquin College's new trades centre explained in under 3 minutes

Scheduled to open in the fall of 2011, the 180000-square-foot building will house 600 additional construction seats and provide space for thousands more students studying in related programs. The uniquely green, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certified building will also be a showcase and teaching laboratory for best practices in sustainable construction. The new facility will feature a storm water recovery system that will capture rainwater to flush toilets; solar panels to provide some power and hot water; and a Biowall, a four-storey living, green wall covered with plants, that helps control humidity and clean the air. The design will have a significantly upgraded building envelope, which will include R30 insulated walls, triple glazed windows and a R50 insulated roof. This upgraded building insulation will considerably exceed building code requirements and conserve energy by reducing heating and air conditioning needs. Algonquin Camping - The Island Experience

A musically charged trip with the boys to one of Algonquin's islands. We used the Canon Vixia HF S20 with its DM-100 microphone and Sony Vegas for editing. Driving from Toronto, we entered the park throught it's west gate and drove along Highway 60. Had to take a 6-km detour north of Hwy 60 to get to the Opeongo Lake Outfitters (km 46). There we rented the aluminum canoe, the paddles and vests. There are several Access Points throughtout the park, allowing overnight campers into the backcountry. We got off the highway at #10 (km 40) and drove on the gravel road for a few minutes until we couldn't go any further. Down the hill into a short but steep portage that took us to Sunday Lake. Once at the island we just relaxed and enjoyed the perfect weather to the fullest. Temps were down to 5C at night but very comfortable during the day. The last scenes in the video were shot during the Lookout Trail hike (km 39).

Cabaret Classics Live On At The Algonquin: Andrea Marcovicci

In celebration of the Johhny Mercer centennial, the Marcovicci singers are taking to the stage with some familiar yet timeless tunes. NY1's Tara Lynn Wagner filed the following report. Celebrating the centennial of legendary songwriter Johnny Mercer, famed cabaret starlet, Andrea Marcovicci is once again taking the stage at the Algonquin Hotel's Oak Room, for a night of standards from the American Songbook. "I'm singing songs in the atmosphere that they were originally written so there's something exquisite about that," Marcovicci said. "That when you walk through the door you have an all around experience of seeing things that were here 100 years ago." "People love the American pop song everywhere in America. It's the poetry of America and if you don't hand it from generation to generation, then it's lost. And people want to hand it down," Marcovicci said. Marcovicci knows a thing or two about handing it down. The performance teams her up with her mother, Helen, a noted torch singer from the 1950s. Though the music was created before her time, Marcovicci has been keeping the tradition alive, celebrating her 23rd year of cabaret in the Oak Room.
