This feature-length documentary will focus on Algrens tremendous but overlooked contribution to American culture, and the influence his work has had on literature, music, theatre, film, photography and painting. It will tell the story of Algren as a pre-eminent post World War II fiction writer, and as a major inspiration to many influential modern artists. Through interviews with Algrens contemporaries and Algren experts, as well as with the writers, filmmakers and musicians inspired by him, the film will push Algren, champion of the marginalized, out from the margins.
