Froberger, Suite XIV, Allemande

The Allemande from Johann Jakob Froberger's Suite XIV in G minor, performed by Stephen Malinowski, accompanied by a graphical score. FAQ Q: Where can I get the sheet music for this song? A: Here's the PDF I played from when I recorded it: www.musanim.com Q: Who is Froberger? A: A German composer; you can read more about him here: en.wikipedia.org Q: What instrument is that? A: It's the guitar sound in the notation program Sibelius, played from a keyboard. I first heard Froberger's music on an LP Thurston Dart recorded in 1954; he performed on a clavichord. Here is that album: www.audiophileusa.com It's since been re-issued on CD: www.musicweb-international.com The clavichord allows for variation in dynamics, which Dart used to good effect, and his playing is always in the back of my mind when I am playing these pieces. I have some sampled clavichords (which I've used in some of my videos), but yesterday I tried playing the Sibelius guitar, and liked how it worked on Froberger's suites: more expressive than a harpsichord, but less expressive than the piano, and a more pleasant sound than a clavichord (though not as good as a real guitar). Froberger's pieces (especially the allemandes in his suites) take many stylistic elements from the lute music of the time, so there is a certain justifiable rationale to this choice.
