The AMECA Tust opened a new wing on the BEIT CURE children's hospital in Malawi in May 2011. The AMECA Wing was built as a totally sustainable income-producing private elective surgical ward. This innovative venture has two important outcomes: - All the income from private surgical cases will be used to fund free paediatric orthopaedic treatment and in addition, will contribute to the Malawi Clubfoot Programme. - Patients who would normally go abroad for treatment will remain in Malawi; this helps to retain foreign exchange in Malawi and thus aids the economy. We also built much-needed training offices for medical staff; these facilities will also be used for medical conferences, therefore producing a further income stream for children's treatment.
