On the eve of their 2011 Pitchfork Music Festival Performance we spoke with Erika M. Anderson and Leif Shackleford of EMA about the recording of Past Life Martyred Saints, the first full-length release under the EMA project header. As you've not doubt discerned, EMA takes its name from the initials of the aforementioned Ms. Anderson, and the project started as her solo endeavor. I found a used TA VA1 at a local shop for an okay price and want to see if the price really means a better pickup. I'm using a warmoth alder body with an allparts SRO neck. Amp is a Frenzel 5E3 Deluxe plus III running line out into guitar rig's Marshall 4x12 with studio reverb. I use both channels on the Frenzel, the M channel set a bit hotter for some tubey goodness. Then I boost it all with a homemade LPB-1 clone. The Tex Mex is first and has the black cover. The Tom Anderson is second with the white cover. Let me know what you think. I know what I like better, which do you prefer? Is the Tom Anderson worth more?
