Otto Frank talks about Annes diary

This is one of the few television interviews Otto Frank gave. Sitting in one of the rooms of the Secret Annex, he is talking about his surprise at the things Anne Frank wrote in her diary. Her thoughts on life, her self-criticism: this was not the daughter he had known Otto was the only member of his family to survive the holocaust. When he returned, Miep Gies gave him his daughters diary. She had saved it after the people in hiding had been arrested. After reading it, Otto Frank decided to publish the diary. As he puts it: To build up a future you have to know the past. The video is an excerpt from the television program The Legacy of Anne Frank, which was part of the series The Eternal Light by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America & NBC. It was broadcast on 24 December 1967. The Anne Frank House holds an original film copy of this rarely shown film.

To escape the horrors of Nazi persecution, Otto Frank hides with his wife and two daughters in attic rooms above an Amsterdam warehouse for two years. Also hiding with the Franks are four other people - the Van Daans, their son Peter, and a dentist, Mr Dussel. In her diary Anne recorded an account of the trials and tribulations of the people around her, all trying to live a normal life in cramped attic accommodation, whilst under the constant threat of discovery by the Gestapo. This is a story made all the more dramatic because it is based on a true account, and concerns the lives of real people who lived at a time of unspeakable horror for the Jewish population in many European countries.

FDR - Anne Frank House

Anne Frank was one of the Jewish victims of Nazi persecution during the second world war. After Nazi Germany invaded the Netherlands in 1940, increasingly severe anti-Jewish measures began here as well. The Frank family tried to escape by going into hiding. On July 1942, Otto Frank, Edith Frank-Hollander and their daughters Margot and Anne hid in this building on the Prinsengracht. They where later joined by Mr. and Mrs Daan, their sun Peter and Mr. Dussel. The building consists of two parts : a front house and a back annex. Otto Frank's business was located in the front house. The uppermost floors of the back anexe became the hiding place. After more than two years the group was betrayed and deported. Anne and Margot died of typhus in Bergen-Belsen in March 1945, only a few weeks before this concentration camp was liberated. Otto Frank, the only member of the group to survive, returned after the war. During the hiding period Anne Frank kept a diary. In it she described daily life in the back anexe, the isolation and the fear of discovery. Anne's diary survived the war: after the betrayal it was found by Miep Gies, one of the helpers. When it was confirmed that Anne would not be returning, Miep gave the manuscripts to Otto Frank. In 1947 the first Dutch edition appeared. Since then the diary has been published in more then 55 languages.

OTTO FRANK Film Presented & Discussion by Eva Schloss Part One

On Wednesday 1 December 2010, the first day of Chanukah, the CJL proudly hosted the UK premier of the film Otto Frank: Father of Anne, a documentary, which was followed by a discussion with Otto's step daughter and holocaust survivor Eva Schloss, who is featured in the film. Otto Frank Father of Anne was produced by award winning and critically acclaimed producer, Pieter van Huystee, Much is known about the diarist Anne Frank, but very little about her incredible father Otto whose own story and experiences are often over shadowed by his daughters. After returning from Auschwitz, Otto Frank, the only survivor of the family, is confronted with Anne's diary. He renews ties with his daughter by reading it. The film tells the story of what he went through, how the loss of his family scarred his life, how he dealt with the dilemmas that the publication of the diary brought upon him and how he made a memorial of his daughters legacy and became the father-figure for thousands of young readers worldwide. Understand this remarkable man whose amazing personality is clearly seen in Anne's writing. Similarly to Anne, Eva and her family went into hiding but were betrayed and captured by the Nazis and sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp. Only Eva and her mother survived. In 1953, her mother married Otto,

Anne Frank; WHY?

Anne Frank was the second child of Edith & Otto Frank. She was born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany. She has an older sister Margot. The Frank family were Jews. The first years of Anne's childhood were full of peace, happiness and joy. Until Aldolf Hitler came into the power of Germany. He hated Jews and wanted them to be murdered first. Jewish people weren't allowed to swim, to ride a bike, go to the cinema and much more. It was getting dangerous for Jewish people. So Edith & Otto frank decided to move to Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Hitler promised he wouldn't attack Holland. So they thought it was a safe place to live, but Hitler broke his promise and in 1940 Hitler attacked Holland. World War II has started. The Frank family decided to submerge together with another family who Otto Frank knew from his work. They hid in the factory of Otto Frank. A few people knew about it but the others didn't. They hid for 2 years. They had to be silent everyday and they couldn't go outside cause nobody was supposed to see them. Everyday they lived in the fear of being discovered. On August 4, 1944 (after hiding in fear for 2 years) a car arrived for the factory with police officers in it. They came inside and discovered the Frank family and the other family. Someone had told them there were Jewish people in there. It's still not known who called the cops. On August 8, 1944 the 8 hiding people were brought into a train to Westerbork (concentration camp). After 2 years, they ...

The house of Anne Frank

www.facebook.com www.ceepackaging.com twitter @ceepackaging www.facebook.com A few of my comments following my visit to the Anne Frank house in Amsterdam. Anne Frank was born on 12 June 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany, the second daughter of Otto Frank (1889 - 1980) and Edith Frank-Holländer (b.1900). Margot Frank (b.1926) was her elder sister. The Franks were liberal Jews. In 1933 the family fled from Germany to Holland. In May 1940, Nazi Germany invaded the Netherlands, and persecution of Jews soon followed. For her thirteenth birthday on 12 June 1942, Anne received a book which she used to write her diary. In July 1942, Margot Frank received a call-up notice from the Zentralstelle für jüdische Auswanderung (Central Office for Jewish Emigration) ordering her to report for relocation to a work camp. Anne was told by her father that the family would go into hiding in rooms above and behind the company's premises on the Prinsengracht, a street along one of Amsterdam's canals, where some of Otto Frank's most trusted employees would help them. The call-up notice forced them to relocate several weeks earlier than had been anticipated On the morning of Monday, 6 July 1942, the family moved into the hiding place. Their apartment was left in a state of disarray to create the impression that they had left suddenly, and Otto Frank left a note that hinted they were going to Switzerland. The need for secrecy forced them to leave behind Anne's cat, Moortje. As Jews were not allowed to use ...

Miep Gies, helper of Anne Frank, dies aged 100

In Memoriam Miep Gies, 1909 2010. Miep Gies, the last surviving and best-known helper of Anne Frank and the others in hiding, died at the age of 100 in Hoorn on 11 January 2010. Right until the end, Miep remained deeply involved with the remembrance of Anne Frank and with spreading her story. Please note: English subtitles for Miep will appear by clicking the arrow at the right bottom corner of the video and choosing Turn on captions. Every day, Miep received letters from all over the world with questions about her relationship with Anne Frank and her role as a helper. "I'm not a hero', she once said, "It wasn't something I planned in advance, I simply did what I could to help." In this video Miep Gies tells how Otto Frank asked her to help him and his family during hiding.

Alfred Newman - The Diary of Anne Frank (1959) - Main Title

This is one of the greatest and most heartbreaking pieces of cinema I have ever seen. It portrays the story of Anne Frank and her family as the are in hiding in a secret annex above a spice factory during WWII. The Franks are populated by Otto and Edith Frank, Anne's parents and her sister Margot. Also in hiding in the Annex were the van Dams, (Anne's pen name for them), Hermann, Auguste and their son Peter, who were later joined by Fritz Pfieffer (in the film named Mr. Dussel). Only Otto Frank survived once the Annex was found out. It is hard to think of anything else to say about Anne Frank and her story, if only because there is so much that cannot be put into words. Let me just say that her and her diary have had a profound impact upon my life like no other book of any kind ever has, and I know her diary has done the smae for countless amounts of people all over the world. The film version is one of the most heart-wrenching movies you will ever see. Directed by: George Stevens Cast: Millie Perkins, Shelly Winters, Joseph Schildkraut, Richard Beymer, Diane Baker. Music: Alfred Newman Based off of Anne Frank's The Diary of a Young Girl.

The Diary of Anne Frank (1959) Clip 4: The First Date

Okay, so alot of people have been asking me to post the entire movie. But I am afraid my account could be deleted so I will post a few of my favourite clips. This is an apology of sorts to my patient subscribers who have requested this clip. I am sorry that I did not post sooner but my computer was recently rebooted and i lost all of my clips and editing programs. This video had to be cut on Windows Media Player. I still hope that it is just as good. Here's my forth one. Please note they are NOT in order George Stevens' epic screen adaption of one of the most loving documents to emerge from World War II- the diary of the 13 year old jewish girl - Anne Frank. To escape the horrors of Nazi Persecution, Otto Frank (Joseph Schildkraut) had his wife (Gusti Huber) and their two daughters, Anne (Millie Perkins) and Margot (Diane Baker) in a dsused Amsterdam annex for two years. Also hiding with them were Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan (Lou Jacobi & Shelly Winters), their son Peter (Richard Beymer) and a dentist, Mr. Dussel (Ed Wynn). Copyright of 20th Century Fox

The Diary of Anne Frank-The God Help the outcasts

The Diary of a Young Girl is a book based on the excerpts from a diary written by Anne Frank while she was in hiding for two years with her family during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Anne Frank began to keep a diary on her thirteenth birthday, 12 June 1942, three weeks prior to going into hiding with her mother Edith, father Otto, sister Margot and four other people, Hermann van Pels, Auguste van Pels, Peter van Pels, and Fritz Pfeffer, in the sealed-off upper rooms of the annexe of her father's office building in Amsterdam. With the assistance of a group of Otto Frank's trusted colleagues they remained hidden for two years and one month, until their betrayal in August 1944, which resulted in their deportation to Nazi concentration camps. Of the group of eight, only Otto Frank survived the war. Anne died in Bergen-Belsen, from a typhus infection in early March, shortly before liberation in April 1945. Comments Please!!!!!!!!! kissss
