Apple II Forever

While the Macintosh was still in "The First 100 Days" of launch mode, a new product in the Apple II family was announced -- the Apple IIc. Remember folks, the Apple II family "paid the party" and created a positive revenue stream and profits while the Macintosh was getting established. Without the Apple IIe and Apple IIc sales, the Macintosh could not have happened. So, enjoy this segment from the April 1984 Apple IIc rollout conference at the Moscone Center in California. - Alfred

Apple IIe switched on after 15 years

My first computer, a 1983 Apple IIe. Bought in Singapore in 1984, we moved to the UK the same year. I used the Apple until the 1st June 1992, when it got packed away and put in the attic after I bought my first PC. Last weekend, on the 24th May 2008, I brought all the boxes out of the attic, set everything up, put the 'Apple presents Apple' 5.25" floppy disk in the drive, and switched it back on...

Levels 9 to 13 of Lode Runner. One of the best games on the apple 2. Back in the day, I played it and played it until I could get from Level 1 to Level 35. Then I discovered the level editor and that I could play any level I wanted. After that discovery, I never played it much as the "challenge" was gone. Wish I'd never learned CTRL-E P.

Apple II Forever - Apple IIc Apple II-GS 1988

Today they're called Macs but way back in the 1980's, Apple users were in love with the Apple II. Despite the introduction of the Mac in 1984, the Apple II continued to have its devoted fans. This program looks at the Apple II culture during the early Mac era. Included are the Apple IIc+, the Apple II-GS, and a rare Apple I. Guests include John Sculley and Gary Kildall. Software demonstrations are of Math Blaster, Paintworks Gold, and Microsoft Bookshelf. Also a look at the newest Macintosh at the time, the Mac IIx. Originally broadcast in 1988.

Apple II Game: Bilestoad (1982 Datamost)

A fighting game where players control meatlings that hack and battle with axes and shields from a top-view perspective. The name is derived from the German words Beil (axe) and Tod (death). The odd spelling reflects Goodman's idea of a future language similar to A Clockwork Orange's Nadsat in which English has been modified by the borrowing of foreign words [1]. Although the game may seem medieval, the backstory in the manual explains that the axe fighting is actually a future virtual reality game designed to reduce real violence. The game offers more strategic variation than many fighting games, letting the player run away and be chased around the island. The musical soundtrack begins with a bizarre, ponderous, off-key re-working of Beethoven's "Für Elise". Emulator: AppleWin1.17.2.0 Recorder: Camtasia 7.0 Editor: Virtual Dub + Camtasia 7.0

Apple II Game: Akalabeth - World of Doom (1980 California Pacific Computer Co.)

A Rock/paper/scissors/ pen and paper Role-Playing Game where you as a player receives quests from Lord British to kill a succession of monsters. Most the of the gameplay takes place in the dungeon. There's also an above ground world map with text to fill the rest of the adventture. This game uses a first person view using wireframe (vector-based) graphics. Also known as Ultima 0. One of the earliest RPG games ever released. This game is a prequel to the first Ultima game released in 1981. It laid the groundwork for the rest of the Ultima games. Although it's regarded as the first game in the Ultima series. Note: This game is so damn long. The levels requiring you to kill Carrion Crawler, Gremlin, Mimic, and Daemon have been offscreeen since didn't want to make the video too long. So I decided to recored only the last level requiring to kill Balrog monster where you earn your status of a knight. Info: Reuploaded (Forget to edit out some parts as a result video is slightly shorter).

Swashbuckler is an early fighting game. The whole game takes place on the same screen. You're in the center and enemies such as humans, snakes, and rats come at you from either side. You've got a sword that can strike high, low or center, or block. As the game progresses the number and speed of the enemies increase until they're too fast for a human to handle. [Apple II] Ultima IV - Quest of the Avatar (1985) (Origin)

Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar, for the Apple II, published by Origin Systems, Inc. Probably the most recognized game in the series. Has support for one or two Mockingboard sound cards. [Video is running in AppleWin v1.16.1.0 w/ an AE Phasor sound card [which has 12 voices, but Ultima IV only uses 6 in this video, becuase I think it sounds better than the Two Mockingboard mode]. en.wikipedia.org www.richardinspace.com www.uo.com www.ultimaaiera.com

Wizardry I for the Apple II, published way back in 1980 by SirTech. The other major influence on Dragon Quest, Wizardry was a huge hit in Japan, moreso than it was in the US. The series is still going strong over there with the same gameplay as in the original five games, whereas Wizardry VI - VIII completely revamped the gameplay in the west.

Castle Wolfenstein for the Apple II

The first in the classic and influential Castle Wolfenstein series. Your mission is to infiltrate Nazi headquarters in disguise, find the secret war plans hidden in a chest somewhere in the castle, and get out alive. Use stolen passes, money, and ultimately ammunition to accomplish your goal. Nice, but hard game...less because of the gameplay, but more because of the controls. Also you will run easily into a wall and then get this annoying..."flickering". So yeah, if possible you should rather get Beyond Castle Wolfenstein.

Running an Apple IIc computer on batteries

The Apple IIc was designed to be portable, and since it is powered by 12 to 15 volts DC, it can be run on batteries. A 12-volt sealed lead-acid "gel cell" battery works best, due to the high current draw. I also show the pinout of the IIc's power supply connector, and demonstrate an unusual BASIC program which generates musical tones on a nearby AM radio, rather than through the computer's own speaker.

Trackstar 128 Apple II Single Board Computer

The Diamond Computer Systems (later Diamond Multimedia) Trackstar 128 was a single board computer that gave PC users the ability to run Apple II software on their systems without having to put another physical computer on their desk. There was another version that emulated the Apple IIe computer. With some restrictions, you can use the PC's internal disk drives or an Apple Disk II unit for the best compatibility. A video passthrough is also provided and can be used if you have CGA video hardware. If you do not, or if you prefer to use a separate monitor, there is a composite video output also present on the card. For reasons that defy any logic or explanation, Diamond opted to copy-protect the software that ran this card, and nobody seems to have duplicated it. Somehow I have also managed to misplace my floppy drive and interposer cable. If anyone can help with this, send me a private message.
