Arpeggios 1 of 3

www.guitarspeedsecret.com First I'll explain the simple concept of what an arpeggio is, and then from there elaborate upon that. In this first installment, we'll take a look at the construction of an Arpeggio by building it from a G Major Chord structure, but I'll also show you another approach to constructing arpeggios, by showing you the difference between constructing an arpeggio from the chord, and constructing an arpeggio from a scale or mode that coincides with the chord itself. This is very beneficial, as you will see in the upcoming parts, 2 and 3, of how this can be used for the writing process to construct chords off of arpeggios for the use of writing songs and chord progressions. If you ever get lost, you can check out my site at http where you can find a more descriptive explanation, as well as the tablature and other visual examples of these videos.

www.unisonicascension.com Solfeggio Arpeggio is Ambient Electro Trance; that has been done in the Ancient Solfeggio Scale. The Arpeggios are tuned to the Solfeggio scale; this requires individual tuning for each note. Also; there are 3 accompanying Solfeggio frequency drones; 528Hz, 639Hz and 852Hz The combined frequencies and arpeggios create a nice harmonic push. I have used a combination of sine' square and triangle waves for the Solfeggio frequency drones, this adds to the Electro feel rather than sticking to pure sine-waves. The arpeggios are a Saw-tooth waveform. The 3 electronic drums used are not frequency pitched to the Solfeggio scale; rather frequency processed, tuned and equalized to be harmonically compatible. This gives the percussion; a Solfeggio harmonic overtone, within the drum sound. I felt this audio processing technique helped to reinforce the Solfeggio Arpeggios. Q: I like the sound of when a guitar player uses thirds and I've been practicing them myself but just going linear through a few scales. Can you do a lesson on using thirds, but discuss thirds with arpeggios? I recently read a post on a discussion forum about this concept, but I don't quite get how thirds can be sounded through arpeggios. I really appreciate all of your YouTube lessons and I hope that you consider my question. Thanks, - Marquis, London England A: One great way of getting a lot of harmonic colour to your guitar melodies (or your solos) is through the use of double-stop arpeggios! And, thirds are certainly the most commonly used interval for this technique. They not only embellish chord-melodies, but they create a very cool illusion of a lush harmony. Paul Hanson / Arpeggios for Lead Guitar /1

Paul Hanson, virtuoso guitarist and the author of SHRED GUITAR, presents this system for improvising both rhythm and lead parts in metal and rock. Hanson carefully demonstrates the various techniques for mastering the art of soloing such as hammer-ons, pull-offs, sweep licks, and vibrato. He also lays the foundation for rock improvisation by teaching blues scales with the aid of graphics that allow musicians who cannot read music to follow along. An excellent primer on improvisation, Mr. Hanson program deserves to be in the library of any aspiring rock or metal guitarists.

GO TO: www.andrewwasson.com Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers a viewers question... Q: I've been working on my 9th extensions on chords but I recently read about how extensions can also be added upon arpeggios. Could you perhaps discuss 9th arpeggios? How do these work on the neck, and do I need to learn brand new patterns? I hope that you will respond to my question. - Webster in Hastings, Nebraska A: The arpeggio types that students generally study are those ones contained within an octave. The primary types are; Ma7, Mi7, Dom.7 and Mi7(b5). But, as we all know, arpeggios are chords, so adding something like a 9th extension onto any-one of these chords, I've just mentioned, is quite easy to do. And, adding them onto arpeggios is almost as easy as adding them on the chords. You can memorize these by either learning entirely new patterns, or by simply adding a new note to each of the patterns that you already know. In this video we'll make a study of adding the 9th, (which of course is simply the second scale tone raised one octave), so we'll add the 9th to a series of Seventh arpeggios. GO TO: www.andrewwasson.com Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers a viewers question... Q: I was wondering what I can do to incorporate Quartal Arpeggios. This alternative to triads , of building stacked 4th's seems really interesting to me. But, I can't seem to have any success making a song up using this approach, maybe I'm going at it all wrong. So, I'm wondering if you might be able to go through Quartal Arpeggio's & Harmony. Miguel -- Columbia A: In songwriting, or improvisation we can experience a very fresh effect by introducing a new vocabulary such as Quartal Harmony. This breaks away from the very common stacked 3rd's sound that we experience most often in music. When we begin looking at alternatives, like stacked 4th's, many times students will experience difficulty with controlling these new sounds. In our lesson on Quartal Arpeggios we'll explore this unique sound and learn how to practice it on the guitar. Few extra tips, TAB and soem other hints I forgot to mention on the web site too. Hope you dig. BTW - yes I know I said variations kinda strange, it was some kind of stutter thing, but I couldn't be arsed re-filming. And I do know that I'm not great at this stuff, before you shred heads have a go about the fact that my sweeping is a bit sloppy. But i's heavily requested and I can teach it ok I think. Arpeggio lesson: Diminished arpeggios for beginners (part 1)

⇩⇩⇩⇩⇩⇩ Tutorial&Tabs here ⇩⇩⇩⇩⇩⇩ Thanks for rating :) (The lead guitar was recorded in timing but the metronome click was added afterwhile when editing the video so there is little latency, sounds a bit out.) Diminished scales are easy on guitar because they use symetrical and regular positions. It goes pretty same for diminished arpeggios. As long as you have 4 different notes I should say: the diminished 7th arp. (1 b3 b5 bb7). The diminished arpeggio only have 3 notes (1 b3 b5) repeated over the fingerboard. So to make it easier, let focus on practicing the exercises. They are easy to visualize. If you like agressive tones and guitarists such as Malmsteen, Friedman, Hammet or Bellas, this lesson is for you. Intermediates to pretty advanced level guitar players, think to check also the video part II. The goal of the lesson isn't theorectical but only to give a few hints and ideas. TAB: i182.photobucket.com Ex1: Diminished (7th) arpeggios over 3 strings (G,B,E 1st) and how to move your shift. I alternate picking (down-up...) on the E and G strings. I sweep pick the passing string (B). So if the last note was picked upstroke then the B string is naturaly picked also upstroke and so on. You noticed then that it's the same parttern repeated over and over across te fingerboard. You don't need to rehearsal till the 23th like I do. If you're novice, simply go and go back with 2 or 3 shifts changes. Ex2: Diminished (7th) arpeggio over 3 strings (D,G,B) and how to <b>...</b>

GUITAR THEORY: Arpeggio Swaps - Common Tone Use

www.creativeguitarstudio.com Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers a viewers question... Q: I like shred guitar, and how arpeggios sound when used in the leads, but some players are using the wrong arpeggios on chords. There must be some kind of logic to this, but I just don't get the concept. Can notes exist in backing chords that relate to a different arpeggio that can be played over it? And, what is this idea called in music theory? Thank you for making guitar lessons on the internet, - Stefan, Germany A: One thing students need to get their head wrapped around when studying arpeggios -- be it in shred guitar, or in almost any other style - is the fact that in a lead or melody line you don't have to follow the exact same chord changes that the rhythm track is playing. Really cool arpeggio lines can come from a mixture of the correct arpeggio, as well as, what might seem like a completely unrelated arpeggio. Lick of the Day: Open-voiced Arpeggio Etude by Steve Morse

Check out Lick of the Day, a free download for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch available at the App Store itunes.apple.com Today's lick is an open-voiced arpeggio etude that combines string-skipping and alternate-picking techniques to outline a four-chord progression while moving down the neck. I start out by using my index and ring fingers to fret the notes B (D string, ninth fret) and F♯ (G string, 11th fret), respectively. I then skip over the B string to grab the D note on the high E string's 10th fret with my middle finger before descending the A major scale over the next five notes, finishing the motif for the first chord (Bm) at the end of beat two. The remaining arpeggios are played similarly by shifting down the neck for each new chord and repeating the arpeggio pattern and scale run. The fret positions and fingerings vary slightly to account for the individual diatonic chord voicings. The way I pick through this lick is consistent with my personal rule of alternate picking, with downstrokes on downbeats and upstrokes on the second and fourth 16th notes of each beat. However, the wide-interval leap between the G and high E string in each arpeggio presents a challenge, as it may feel awkward to perform an upstroke on the G string prior to a string skip in the opposite direction. When playing this lick, if strict alternate picking does not fit your personal style, try "sweeping" through the arpeggio by using two consecutive downstrokes in place of alternate picking <b>...</b>

TAB: i182.photobucket.com tempo: 140bpm rhy pattern: 16th notes (fast demo) whole notes (slow demo) Here, I demonstrate 2 different positions to perform a Major 7th arpeggios. Basically this arpeggios has 4 notes. for instance the first one is F Major7th (FM7) notes are: FACE and E is the 7th which is pretty easy to remember as it is 1/2 step before the root note (F)... So, I perform those arpeggios in descending and ascending positions... The technique I use is sweeping and I guess you know what Im talking about. The demo with rhythm section's musical goal is to show thoses arpeggios in a musical context but I could have played them over different positions toward the fingerboard... In the fast demo I play 4notes/beat and in the slow demo I play 1note/bar. I advice to practice slowly and watch the position of my hands. Dont crisp. Try to palm mute right hand to prevent strings resonances. Thanks

Guitar Lesson: Using Arpeggios in Solos

www.creativeguitarstudio.com Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers a viewers question... Q: I want to "Pimp up" my soloing to become much more melodic and I want to clearly "paint" those chord sounds in my solos, (Maj7, Min7, Min7b5,...Dom. 7). I learned about modes and I'm able to figure out modes, chords and arpeggios by ear and their intervallic structure all over the fret board, but could you please make a video on ARPEGGIOS: (specifically) How to creatively use them in soloing, because I don't want to just shred scales up and down, I want to get the tone and the voices out of every harmony. Tim Hamburg, Germany Thanks for writing in! Arpeggios are one excellent way to do exactly what youre after. Because, the arpeggios are the chord tones. So, by playing arpeggios - you actually are covering the notes of each chord. This pulls out the rich color of the chord of the moment and allows you to have a very connected sound when the one chord changes to another.
