UK's Top Athletes Shine at the Aviva London Grand Prix 2011


Following their recent successes at the Aviva UK Trials and Championships in Birmingham, British stars including Mo Farah, Jenny Meadows, Helen Clitheroe, Louise Hazel and Jeanette Kwakye, as well as reigning World Champion Phillips Idowu, all participated in the 2011 Aviva London Grand Prix, in front of a red-hot crowd at Crystal Palace. Aviva GB & NI Team going for gold at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Paris


The Aviva GB & NI team departed for Paris ahead of the European Indoor Championships, which gets under way on Friday 4th March. The 32-strong team includes newly crowned 5000m British record holder Mo Farah, who will defend his 3000m title won in Turin in 2009; sprinter Harry Aikines-Areetey who overcame injury to secure his place with a season's best time in the 60m; and former heptathlete Kelly Sotherton, in her new role as a 400m athlete. 10 out of the 32 athletes in the team will be also making their first international senior appearance, including schoolgirl Jodie Williams; the impressive 17 year old already has a double sprint World Youth and 100m World Junior title to her name, and took her first senior title at the Aviva Indoor UK Trials and Championships in Sheffield earlier this month.

The 2011 AVIVA Irish Schools Cross Country was held in the National Aquatic Centre, Abbotstown, Dublin on saturday March 12th 2011. The Flat course provided great underfoot conditions which set the tone for a fast series of races. The Introduction of the Minor age group produced some fine performances from a field of mainly first year competitors. In the girls race Nadia El-Tom Power (St. Macdara's Community College) had a strong finish to win from Clodagh O'Reilly (Loreto College Cavan) and Laura Costello (Ursuline Thurles), with Ursuline Thurles winning the team from St. Macdara's.Daniel Gallagher (St. Catherine's Killybegs) was another to produce a strong finish to win the minor boys race from William Hynes (St. Attracta's Tubbercurry) and Luke Dinsmore (Coleraine AI). Colaiste Mhuire Mullingar won the team from St. Malachy's The junior boys race produced a close finish with Hugh Morgan (De La Salle Waterford) outpacing Paddy Robb (St. Malachy's) and Shane McGowan (St. Columb's Derry) for a good win. St. Kieran's College won the team from Douglas Community College. In the junior Girls catagory, Ella Fennelly (Mount Anville) produced a strong finish to outsprint her rivals on the flat ground, with Nicole Cuskelly (Killina Secondary School) getting the better of Niamh Cotter (Bantry Community College) for the minor places. Sale Sharks are pulling out all the stops ahead of Saturday's Aviva Premiership "Big Game" against London Irish at the Reebok Stadium, and called on Olympic Gold medallist Darren Campbell to lead them in a last minute speed training session. Aviva GB & NI Disability Team Prepare For The Biggest Summer of Their Careers


For members of the Aviva GB and NI Disability Team, this summer will most likely prove to be the most important of their careers. With that in mind, members of the team, including double Paralympic gold medallist David Weir, two-time Paralaympic medallist Shelly Woods, Paralympic gold medallist Dan Greaves, and current World Champion and World Record Holder Nathan Stephens, have spent a portion of the winter at the Aviva-funded warm weather camp in Monte Gordo, Portugal.

Athletics provides the bases for all sports by teaching the fundaments for running, jumping and throwing. To help ensure athletics is taught correctly and through a variety of teaching styles, Aviva launched the Aviva Elevating Athletics Fund to assist teachers, pupils and parents alike. In conjunction with the launch of the Aviva Elevating Athletics Fund, Jessica conducted an array of media interviews to raise awareness of the campaign and motivate pupils to take part in every athletics activity, regardless of their ability. World's Best Athletes Launch 2011 Athletics Series


The world's number one heptathlete, Jessica Ennis, and reigning 400m Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu, have launched the 2011 Aviva Series in Birmingham ahead of a busy athletics schedule next year. Jess Ennis is set to also announce which events she plans to compete in as she prepares for the European Indoor Championships in Paris. The Aviva Series will make up a substantial part of most athletes' preparations for the IAAF World Championships in South Korea next year, and will be essential in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympics. With six separate meetings around the UK, British athletes will gain valuable experience competing against the world's best athletes, as well as the thrill and expectation of performing in front of home crowds. In an important year for athletics, the Series will also provide a great opportunity for supporters to get close to the athletes, be part of their preparations, and enjoy the action as the global athletics elite head to British shores. Jessica and Christine will also detail how their preparations are going for London 2012 and what they expect from the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
