Held every year since 1925 somewhere in Johnson County, Tennessee this may be the longest running "old time" fiddlers convention in the southern Applachians. For the last 17 years it has been held at the "Old Mill Music Park" in Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee. Bloomery a term for a type pioneer iron forge process but there are many laurels growing in this valley as well. The music park indoor and outdoor stages are built around the 1900 vintage railway depot of the short lived Laurel Railway chartered to the Thayer Lumber Company. Locally this was sometimes called the "Pea Vine Railway" but that is a generic term commonly given to narrow gauge mountain railways. This site was also location of water powered iron forges and later other enterprises utilizing water power at the old mill building opposite the stage. Some of the Roan Mountain Hilltoppers provided a warm-up on stage while the rest of the competitors tried to avoid being "first on".
