www.edmunds.com It looks awkward in pictures and some find it hideous, but the 2008 BMW X6 50i isn't nearly as warped when you see it in person. It's kind of a supermodel from behind, with a slim, narrow roof at the top and curvaceous hips at the bottom. Designers call this sort of thing tumblehome, and an SUV without it looks like a refrigerator. The front is all BMW with a big twin kidney grille and fighter-jet-size intakes at each corner. The roof line goes on forever in profile, giving the X6 a hatchback-style look that's unique at best, a little too forced at worst. The designers at BMW say it's "coupelike," so they — and they alone — call the X6 a Sports Activity Coupe. It gets better from behind the wheel. Fire up the new 400-horsepower, 4.4-liter V8 and it sounds more like a carbureted big block than a sophisticated twin-turbo engine with direct injection. We don't remember an X5 sounding this burly. So far this much is clear — pictures don't do the all-wheel-drive 2008 BMW X6 justice.

Thankfully, the interior upgrades are less over the top. M Sport seats and an M Sport steering wheel are the most obvious changes. There's a variable-redline speedometer, along with an optional head-up display that can be reconfigured by the driver through the M Drive menu. It's all quite tasteful-looking, which is good considering that the outside is somewhat of an acquired taste.

Not much fuel-efficiency, mind you. On the highway, the X6 Hybrid's EPA number goes up two notches, but it still doesn't crack 20 mpg (its 19 mpg) while the city numbers goes from a paltry 12 mpg to a more respectable 17 mpg.

With the G-Power X6 Typhoon RS Ultimate V10, G-Power once again presents an automobile that can only be described with superlatives. The standard X6 M with its twin-turbocharged engine is already impressively powered, but the standard engine was enough to create the world's fastest SUV. For this reason the engineers at G-Power decided to fit the X6 M with the breath-taking performance of Formula 1 technology found in the other BMW M cars. The first step the BMW M5 5.0-liter V-10 power unit was transplanted and comprehensively modified. The objective of the engine development at G-Power was to bring out the best of the BMW Formula 1 characteristics hidden in the genes of the V-10. The result is an engine without any equal in the world. Revving high with immediate throttle response and an explosive power output create a sensation of acceleration which otherwise only pure racing engines can achieve. In addition, the G-Power twin supercharger system (taken from the G-Power M5 Hurricane world-record vehicle) was developed one stage further by increasing the engine size from 5.0 to 5.5 liters. This means more space for the supercharged air from the twin ASA T1-316 compressors which will be cooled to optimum performance temperatures by a double-flow water-cooled intercooler. The result is a peak performance of 888 hp at 8000 rpm and a maximum torque of 642 lbs.-ft. at 6800 rpm. Merging the athletic aesthetics of a true sports car with the versatility of an SAV resulted in a new vehicle category that so far has not been realised. Although BMW is moving into new terrain, Chris Bangle´s statement "a good concept realizes itself in a short amount of time" suggests a series production car might be not too far away...
I took this video a few weeks ago but I don't think the X6 M is a great car so that's why I have uploaded it yet. I think the X6 M is not a car wich is allowed to wear the M badge... It is not sporty enough and the exhaust sound is not very good... The sound in the car when accelerating is better than the exhaust sound, it actually sounds pretty good!
