Movie about the ET 420. The ET 420 is a light-weight commuter electric multiple unit developed for the "S-Bahn" networks in Germany and was originally commissioned by the Deutsche Bundesbahn for the Munich, Stuttgart and Frankfurt networks. It was built from 1971 onwards in several series, later changing the construction from steel to aluminium, making the cars more lightweight and able to carry a greater payload. It has largely been replaced in said cities by its successor, the Class 423, but some units have been shipped to Stockholm and some have been transferred to the "Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn" network. In Sweden the fifteen units received designation X420 serving on the Stockholm commuter rail, and were in service from 2001 until the arrival of the new X60-series in 2006-08. Today all trains of this class have been repainted in the DB-typical "traffic red" (verkehrsrot).

Often thought of as a 'magnetic levitation' transport was the (West) Berlin, Germany, M-Bahn. This system used a linear synchronous motor in the guideway which reacted with permanent magnets on the vehicles to provide 85% of the support as well as propel the trains. The vehicles were also fitted with small lateral and vertical rollers which provided 15% of the support as well as helping keep the vehicle within preset lateral limits. Very much experimental in nature there were just three stations along a 1.6 km route which took the train very close to the former division between the Eastern and Western sectors of the city. This installation ceased operating in the early 1990's - it was partially built over a closed section of the former U-Bahn and with Berlins' re-unification the route was needed to allow the U-Bahn to be reopened. ------------------------------ This video includes views of all three stations (Gleisdreieck - where the M-Bahn took over a [then] disused U-Bahn station platform, Berburger Str. and Kemperplatz) plus the Berlin wall, which 5 months after its breaching had already been partly demolished. Some primarily railway related views filmed in Berlin a few months after the wall had been opened but when the city was still divided. The film includes the following:- i)Several views of the Berlin wall, watch towers, etc as seen from S-Bahn trains. ii) Platform views taken at Gesundbrunnen, Friedrichstr. and Zoo stations. iii) The duty free 'Intershop' shops for West Berlin passengers changing between trains at Friedrichstr, which was wholly in East Berlin. iv) Several rides (S-Bahn and U-Bahn) on West Berlin trains through closed stations in the Eastern controlled part of Berlin. v) A DDR (former East Germany) map of the U & S Bahn in what the Eastern authorities called 'Westberlin'. This is a short film sampling Berlins S Bahn & U Bahn in June 2009.Originally filmed in 1920x1080 whilst on location. The S Bahn and U Bahn is an integrated fare system but run independently by Deutsche Bahn (DB) and BVG respectively. The stock is usually yellow and the stations each have a unique character. One of the most famous stations is Berlin-Friedrichstraße which was the only railway East/West transfer point during the Berlin Wall years. Most of the lines were sealed by the DDR to prevent West Berliners getting off and East Berliners getting on. Many stops became ghost stations until reopened after German Reunification. There are other trains visible in this footage notably the ICE national inter-city service, DB regional double deck trains and one instance of the Berlin-Warsaw Express at Berlin-Charlottenburg station.

I've been looking about on the web for train and rail simulators and came across this. Couldn't record with fraps but I've use Hypercam to record this and the layout used is the Kansai Layout set in Japan. There is a UK stock pack also availible for this game which has all the modern stuff like the Class 60, HST, Eurostar, Voyager as well as Class 150's and Turbostars etc. More videos from this will come, but for now enjoy this one. The Bahn Railway Simulator is shareware and has a 92-day trial, You can get it from the authors website which is jbss.de :). Use the menu on the left to navigate and there is a message board as well. The section here the Class 60 is running on is between Nagaokakyo to Shin-Osaka. Please watch in "Full-Screen" mode for a better picture and also "High-Quality" if possible.
