Construction work on Nord Stream continues - RIA Novosti 100921

Construction work on the Nord Stream gas pipeline is running to schedule. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin announced this good news during his visit to the "Solitaire" pipe-laying ship, whose international crew is laying pipes on the bottom of the Baltic Sea. The Nord Stream will be a direct link between Russia and Germany bypassing transit countries. The first leg is due to be completed in 2011, and the second leg in 2012. Nord Stream is expected to have a capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year. Quoting specialists, the prime minister said that natural gas exports to the European Union countries are set to increase by 200 billion cubic meters over the next decade.

This is enough to supply more than 26 million households. Nord Stream is more than just a pipeline. It is a new channel for Russian natural gas exports, and a major infrastructure project which sets a new benchmark in EU-Russia cooperation. Nord Stream is fully committed to preserving the Baltic Sea environment. The pipeline will be built with proven and environmentally sound technology. It is planned with profound awareness of environmental issues and conditions of the Baltic Sea. Nord Streams ambitious safety concept will set new standards for pipeline safety.

Baltic pipeline fuels ecology row

A committee of the European Parliament says the proposed Nord Stream pipeline between Russia and Germany poses 'a serious ecological threat' to the Baltic Sea. But doubts have been raised over the claims, with some experts saying criticism of the project is inspired by political rather that environmental concerns.

Baltic Gas Pipeline Linking Russia and EU Officially Launches

For more news visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ me.lt The Nord Stream pipeline carrying Russian natural gas is now officially open. It runs along the bottom of the Baltic Sea and supplies Russian gas to the European continent. The 7.4 billion Euro investment will give gas-dependent Europe a steady stream of natural gas from Siberian oilfields. The controversial project cuts across the territorial waters of several nations. Sweden decided not to join the project. One of the reasons given was concern that Russia might use the gas supply as a political tool. In winter of 2009, Russia cut off the gas supply to Europe over a dispute with Ukraine. The new twelve hundred-kilometer-long offshore pipelines will deliver gas in full capacity in 2012.

New Pipeline To Europe Ends Ukraine's Blackmail And Thievery Of Russian Gas

The launch of the first stage of the Nord Stream Germany Italy France gas pipeline signals the loss of Ukrane's exclusive status as a transit nation between Russia and its European customers. "Ukraine is our long-time, traditional partner. As any transit country, it faces a constant temptation to abuse its position," Russian Prime Minister Putin said as he was launching the Nord Stream pipeline on Tuesday. "Now this exclusive status is no more," he stressed. The head of the Russian government expects Moscow's relations with Kiev to become more civilized now, he added. The Nord Stream pipeline delivers natural gas from Russia directly to Germany over the seabed of the Baltic Sea. It is not dependent on any third party to supply the fuel. A similar pipeline project, South Stream, which is to deliver gas to Europe via the Black Sea, is now one step closer to coming into life, head of the Russian gas giant Gazprom announced on Tuesday. Aleksey Miller said the German, French, Italian and Russian partners in the project have come to an agreement over the stakes they will have in it. The sharing deal is to be penned on September 16, he told Vladimir Putin. Ukraine has had several rounds of debates with Russia, which affected the transit of natural gas to Europe. The last such incident in 2008 stirred from an unsettled Ukrainian debt and resulted in Russia cutting supply to Ukraine. In response, Kiev began siphoning off gas bound for European customers, which ended with a 13-day ...
