Banach fixed point theorem & differential equations

A novel application of Banach's fixed point theorem to fractional differential equations of arbitrary order. The idea involves a new metric based on the Mittag-Leffler function. The technique is applied to gain the existence and uniqueness of solutions to initial value problems. rmmc.asu.edu This presentation is a snapshot of my current mathematical research.

(PP 1.1) Measure theory: Why measure theory - The Banach-Tarski Paradox

A playlist of the Probability Primer series is available here: www.youtube.com You can skip the measure theory (Section 1) if you're not interested in the rigorous underpinnings. If you choose to do this, you should start with "(PP 1.S) Measure theory: Summary" at: www.youtube.com (0:00) Intro to Probability Primer series. (1:20) Why do we need measure theory? We illustrate the need using the remarkable Banach-Tarski Paradox.
Mark Schultz vs Ed Banach 1982 NCAA Wrestling Finals

Mark Schultz(Univ. of Oklahoma---1981 NCAA Champ at 167 lbs.) vs. Ed Banach(Univ. of Iowa---1980 and 1981 NCAA Champ at 177 lbs.) wrestle in the 1982 NCAA Finals at 177 lbs. This match is considered one of the greatest wrestling matches in NCAA Finals history. Each wrestler went on to win 3 individual NCAA Wrestling Championships, and Gold Medals at the 1984 Olympics.

The weak star topology and the Banach-Alaoglu theorem

This is a lecture from Dr Feinstein's 4th-year module G14FUN Functional Analysis. See also Dr Feinstein's blog at explainingmaths.wordpress.com and, in particular, the Functional Analysis screencasts blog page at wp.me In this screencast, Dr Feinstein introduces the weak topology on a normed space and the weak star topology on the dual space. He then proves the Banach-Alaoglu theorem, that the closed unit ball of the dual space is weak star compact. This material is suitable for those with a basic knowledge of normed spaces and their duals, and of infinite products of topological spaces, including Tychonoff's theorem on arbitrary products of compact topological spaces.
