Wanted to show off my new recording setup :D read about it below Not a note for note cover, but why would it be? It's acid jazz, it's meant to be changed, as long as it sounds cool, right? I'm going to change up the instrumentation of the song anyways when my band covers it this year. I appologize for the video quality. The video's recorded just on a webcam. For those of you who are interested, (my signal chain's gotten a bit complicated): I'm playing a Fender American Jazz Bass Deluxe V circa 2005. It's running into a Tech21 Sans Amp DI for the sole purpose of splitting the signal. One signal path goes into an FMR Audio RNP preamp. As an insert into the RNP I've got a DBX 266XL compressor. From there it goes into my Presonus Firepod (skipping it's rather mediocre preamps). The other signal path goes through a (new) Boss GEB-7 eq to a Boss CS-3 compressor into a Markbass Little Mark III bass head driving an Ampeg SVT-210HE cab. It's mic'd with an AKG D112. It again goes into my RNP preamp with a DBX 266XL as an insert. From there it goes into my Presonus Firepod. It's recorded into Cubase 5, compressed a bit again and leveled with the backing track. It's all a bit cumbersome, but i think it sounds great! It's probably about as close as I can get to the original sound with a JBass.

This isn't a perfect cover, but none of my other ones are either, so why break tradition? ;DI originally recorded this cover in September of 2009, 6 months after I started playing bass! Yes, yes, I know...I played the entire guitar solo part all wrong. The fact that the audio gets a bit off probably doesn't help my case, either. : / If this song didn't exist, there's a good chance that I wouldn't be playing bass today. Yes...it's that cool. When I put this video up before, I ended up getting a lot of comments about how my fingers look so stressed...it's true...but I think I've made a lot of improvement in the year that I've been playing since I recorded this!

www.tonydickinson.net Awww yeah. Funky as hell song. Maybe modern disco a bit, but still one of my favorite songs to jam to. So this is the Synth Bass played on Bass Guitar. Yes, you heard be right, SYNTH Bass. Most of the songs off of the Synkronized album were played on Synth Bass because Jamiroquai's long time bassist Stuart Zender had left in the middle of the recording. A couple songs were played by next in line bass player, Nick Fyffe. But don't get me wrong, great job at making it sound real. Tabs www.tonydickinson.net Tabbed for 6-string bass, which was going to be what I was originally going to play on, but the big, beefy 6-string neck isn't ideal for this funky action. I would have just jammed the hell out and not played many of the notes that were in the original tune, but the Synth Bass fills up so much low end that it would have clashed too much. At least I beefed up the bridge a bit. This song is probably the funnest song to jam out too, ever. But, I need to hold myself back because of the potential goofier faces I might make. And, I got my wisdom teeth removed recently. I'm not in the most photogenic state right now, so I just went ahead and cutoff my head again. And yes, this is THE song from Napoleon Dynamite. www.tonydickinson.net Mike Lepond says "excellent job on the song !!" This is my first Youtube cover video. It's "Domination" by Symphony X off of the album Paradise Lost. Since a bunch of you have been asking about tabs, here is a bass transcription which I found, and then corrected and completed so it was correct: www.tonydickinson.net The intro riff's triplets in the song has a hammer and slide, which is wrong, as it is all hammered. I transcribed it for my 6-string, Mike Lepond uses a 4-string, so it's entirely possible on a 4-string, so those of you 4-stringers just need to move the unplayable notes to the next strings. I did hit a few sour notes, and bullshitted a couple parts when I couldn't remember what the exact notes were. A few sections are still a little rough, but this is the best I can do in a full beginning-to-end take. I recorded the video by hooking up my DV Camera to my computer and recording the video straight to disk, and I recorded the audio with my Line 6 POD X3 Live. I then stripped the audio from the video file and put the audio mixdown into the video. It appears that the little text box in the lower left is too blurry. It's just the name of the song, artist, album, and performer (me) for those who are wondering. Bass: Ibanez SR506
