Beirut - Brandenburg

Zach Condon was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico on February 13, 1986.[3] He was brought up in Virginia before moving back to New Mexico. Condon attended Santa Fe High School, where he was a student until he dropped out at the age of 16. He later enrolled in community college, which he attended for a short period before traveling to Europe at the age of 17.[4] He became aware of Balkan folk music. This discovery and Condon's subsequent exploration of world music proved to be instrumental in the development of Beirut's sound.[1] On his return from Europe, Condon enrolled at the University of New Mexico, where he studied Portuguese and Photography.[5] Condon recorded the bulk of the material used for Gulag Orkestar by himself in his bedroom, going into the studio to finish the album with the assistance of Jeremy Barnes (Neutral Milk Hotel, A Hawk and a Hacksaw) and Heather Trost (A Hawk and a Hacksaw), who became early members of the band Beirut. On the strength of the recordings, Condon was signed under the name of Beirut to Ba Da Bing! records, and Gulag Orkestar was given a May 2006 release. Condon recruited some friends to play the music live and Beirut was born. Beirut's first official music video was for the song "Elephant Gun". The video was directed by Alma Har'el. The second video, which was for the song "Postcards from Italy", was also directed by Alma Har'el, and was released later. Lauren Tafuri was the costume designer for both of these videos. Beirut - Goshen

Lyrics : ♥ You're on in five, it's time you rise or fail. They've gone before, stood by your door all day. For what it's worth, defend your kind from shame. The lights are down, go on inside, they've paid. You're the face in stone, through the land I own. You never found it home. You're not the girl I used to know. What would you hide from such a glow If I had only told you so? You're on in five, it's time you rise or fail. They've gone before, stood by your door all day. But you never found it home. A fair price I'd pay to be alone. What would you hide from such a glow If I had only told you so? ♥ Beirut / The Rip Tide / Goshen [Pics from Deviant Art]

Beirut Duty Free Rocks Airport with Dabke Dance - Flash Mob | دبكة في مطار بيروت

Whilst the idea of a flash mob isn't a new thing, a Dabke / Hip-Hop flash mob in Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport (Beirut Duty Free) at a time when the region is in flux is certainly a first. On March 5th, 2011, passengers experienced something a little different. A flash mob performed a mix of Dabke and hip-hop to entertain and delight passengers and airport staff alike. M&C Saatchi and Beirut Duty Free, created this vibrant event as part of their "Take Back More." campaign. The aim was to literally create a wonderful memory of Lebanon that passengers could take with them on their journey. Produced by: Zoé Production Beirut, Directed by: Amin Dora, Director of Photography: Muriel Aboulrouss Song title: Houwarra "Bladi Ard El Hadara", Performed by: Alain Merheb (JADE re-edit 2011 for Beirut Duty free)

Steps Ahead - Beirut

The first song from the fusion jazz DVD Steps Ahead. Stars Michael Brecker, Mike Mainieri, Darryl Jones, Mike Stern and Steve Smith. A couple of very good solos from Michael Brecker and Mike Mainieri at 4:16 minutes and 6:25 minutes. I couldn't be bothered writing anything else so here's a wikipedia article. "Steps Ahead (originally known as Steps) is a jazz fusion group and the brainchild of vibraphonist Mike Mainieri. The long-lived group began releasing recordings in Japan as far back as 1980. The group's distinguished alumni include Steve Gadd, Michael Brecker, Eliane Elias, Warren Bernhardt, Rachel Z, Peter Erskine, Tony Levin, Darryl Jones, Eddie Gomez and many others. Brecker and Manieri are featured on the Dire Straits album Brothers in Arms. For rock listeners, the albums `Steps Ahead' and `Modern Times' are a great bridge into a kind of jazz that is energetic and powerful."

Mount Wroclai (Idle Days)

As performed by Beirut. A music video type thing produced for NYU's Sight & Sound Film course (which means most everything done in-camera on an "antique" arri 16mm - except for two parts that had to be composited in post because of a film jam - and edited old school style on a Steenbeck. word.)
