DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Two Women (Italian: La ciociara, roughly translated as "[The Woman] from Ciociaria") is a 1960 Italian film directed by Vittorio De Sica. It tells the story of a woman trying to protect her young daughter from the horrors of war. The film stars Sophia Loren, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Eleonora Brown, Carlo Ninchi and Andrea Checchi. The film was adapted by De Sica and Cesare Zavattini from the novel of the same name written by Alberto Moravia. The story centers on Cesira (Loren), a widowed Roman shopkeeper, and Rosetta (Brown), her devoutly religious twelve-year-old daughter, during World War II. To escape the Allied bombing of Rome, Cesira and her daughter flee southern Lazio for her native Ciociaria, a rural, mountainous province of central Italy. After they arrive at Ciociaria, Cesira attracts the attention of a young local intellectual with communist sympathies named Michele (Jean-Paul Belmondo). However, Michele is eventually taken prisoner by a company of German soldiers, who hope to use him as a guide to the mountainous terrain. Later, Cesira and Rosetta learn that he has been shot and killed by the same soldiers who took him hostage. After the Italian liberation, mother and daughter decide to go back to Rome. After experiencing mild harassment and propositioning throughout their journey, they fall subject to an unexpected tragedy. Jean Paul Belmondo and his mysterious friend, Carlos Sotto Mayor

Turn on audio. Includes musical accompanyment to the slideshow. Bebel with his lovely pet Carlos Sotto Mayor. Bebel and Carlos were one of the most elegant couples of the 1980's, either dressing in the trademark Belmondo leathers or in the finest styles of the day. For as long as it lasted and how deep the love was, Carlos seemed to be very dedicated to Bebel. She was one of Belmondo's finest women and most dedicated, since she is always close to, quiet, obedient to him wherever he went. There is very little information available regarding Carlos. All that is known about her are the following rumours: that she is Brazilian and that her male name "Carlos" was given to her because her parents expected a boy, but recieved a girl, and they kept the name Carlos for her. She seems to have been a pop singer and model in with a significant success in France, the Netherlands, and Japan, but she is relatively unknown to her native Brazil and Americas. She has been called mysterious since, unlike some of Belmondo's previous women, she never spoke while out and about with Belmondo, never living the high life nor boasting to the tabloids, instead, she seemed to have lived an average, anonymous lifestyle, making her a good woman. Anyhow, for as long as they were together from 1979-88, she made Bebel "Perfect." Hopefully, soneone has more information and photos of her.
