Miami to Bimini - In July of 2010 we left Miami and crossed the Gulf Stream on 4 Sea Doos, arriving at South Bimini in the Bahamas (55 miles). Beauty ensued. All together there were 8 of us that made the trip and it was the adventure of a lifetime. We caught and tagged this big female bull shark off the docks of the Bimini Blue Water Resort in Alice Town, North Bimini. The total length of the shark was 265cm, which is nearly 9 feet long. As you can see, her gills had been previously damaged somehow, and by the looks of her I think this shark is one of the bulls shown in one of my other videos from a couple months back "Bimini Bull Sharks... In the Dark". The shark was not hurt. We love sharks and have done this several hundred times. The critically endangered smalltooth sawfish is threatened by habitat destruction by the construction of an oversized development - Bimini Bay Resort. It is not only the sawfish that is under threat - the mangrove and sea grass lagoons are nursery areas for many species of fish, lobster and conch. Sharks, rays and turtles are also found here. There have been accusations of bribes made to government officials and council members to allow the project to go ahead on land that was to be designated as a marine protected area. The digging made the local wells brackish so the developers were required to build a water plant to supply the local people - trouble is that when the developers are using lots of water the local people are left with none.
