Singin The Blues - Bix Beiderbecke

The Frankie "Tram" Trumbauer Orchestra feat. Bix Beiderbecke - Singin' the Blues. The first minute of the song is a sax solo by Trumbauer. The second minute is Bix's cornet solo. The third minute features a short clarinet solo by Jimmy Dorsey, who was the clarinetist in Trumbauer's Orchestra at that time. The guitarist on this track is Eddie Lang. This song is considered a jazz classic because Bix and, to a lesser degree, Tram were able to make a slow-tempo jazz ballad swing. This ability to make slow-tempo swinging jazz would later be emulated by jazz musicians ranging from Lester Young to John Coltrane to Miles Davis.

BIX - Neverk Mama (Sex Revolution)

BIX is one of the oldest and the best-known bands in Lithuania. They got together in 1987 in the town of Siauliai and in a few months became a cult band. After a period of intensive touring throughout Europe and US they were the most experienced Baltic band, and probably the best known in the West. After totally obscure beginnings in the underground of their native town, the wave of liberation threw BIX in front of the tens-of-thousands strong crowds at the first huge Freedom meetings and concerts. The restless energy and efficient spirit of BIX songs perfectly corresponded to the "wind of changes" and the band instantly became one of the country's favourites. BIX has been at the top of Lithuanian pop charts ever since, as well. The next few years were spent in constant touring. BIX participated in number significant festivals in Western end Eastern Europe and played a lot of clubs. Their trips took them to Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden and twice United States. The band was invited to the famous rock gatherings - Berlin Independence Days and New Music Seminar in New York. Everywhere they played, their music met enthusiastic audience reaction and excellent reviews. BIX even managed to build up a kind of cult following in some countries, which is not an easy task for a foreign band. BIX had their hard times too. In 1991 a part of the band had a terrible car-crash. The first manager was killed and few members badly ...

Because I was unable to use Bix's 1925 recording of Davenport Blues, the music accompanying this video is the beautiful duet performed by Alex Welsh on cornet and Fred Hunt on piano. I regret having to cut the music to fit the video. The performance, in its entirety, can be heard on the Alex Welsh Louis Armstrong Memorial Concert CD, which is available on iTunes and other music download sites.

76000 views! WOW! This is proof that even today, Bix's unique style has many thousands of fans. Thanks for viewing! Here is my first video, At the Jazz Band Ball by Bix Beiderbecke. Composed by LaRocca originally, Bix adds his touch of uniqueness to this rendition. In many ways, Bix Beiderbecke symbolised the Jazz Age. Truly wonderful music, with a truly tragic underside of rotgut and drunkeness. Royal Garden Blues -- Bix Beiderbecke 1927

Royal Garden Blues -- Bix Beiderbecke 1927 On October 5 1927 Bix Beiderbecke recorded one of the most important jazz recordings in its history. Royal Garden Blues with his New Orleans Lucky Seven sometimes known as his Gang. Bix had some superb musicians in his band: Bill Rank on trombone, Don Murray on clarinet, Adrian Rollini on bass sax, Frank Signorelli on piano and Chauncey Moorehouse on drums. Through the decades this recording has been a sample of how jazz can be played and has influenced many of the great white jazz musicians like Bobby Hackett, Jimmy McPartland soon after and today more the likes of Tom Pletcher, Bent Persson and certainly Hans Carling and his New Coling Orchestra. The most amazing rendition of this tune is being played in 1984 by Hans Carling together with his band and his young musical family. www.youtube.com

Bix Beiderbecke - I'm Coming Virginia - 1927

Leon Bismark "Bix" Beiderbecke (March 10, 1903 -- August 6, 1931) was an American jazz cornetist, jazz pianist, and composer. A native of Davenport, Iowa. Bix Beiderbecke was one of the great jazz musicians of the 1920's; he was also a child of the Jazz Age who drank himself to an early grave with illegal Prohibition liquor. His hard drinking and beautiful tone on the cornet made him a legend among musicians during his life. The legend of Bix grew even larger after he died. Bix never learned to read music very well, but he had an amazing ear even as a child. His parents disapproved of his playing music and sent him to a military school outside of Chicago in 1921. He was soon expelled for skipping class and became a full-time musician. In 1923 Beiderbecke joined the Wolverine Orchestra and recorded with them the following year. Bix was influenced a great deal by the Original Dixieland Jass Band, but soon surpassed their playing. In late 1924 Bix left the Wolverines to join Jean Goldkette's Orchestra, but his inability to read music eventually resulted in him losing the job. In 1926 he spent some time with Frankie Trumbauer's Orchestra where he recorded his solo piano masterpiece "In a Mist". He also recorded some of his best work with Trumbauer and guitarist, Eddie Lang, under the name of Tram, Bix, and Eddie. Bix was able to bone up on his sight-reading enough to re-join Jean Goldkette's Orchestra briefly, before signing up as a soloist with Paul Whiteman's Orchestra ...

Bing Crosby, Paul Whiteman Orchestra, Bix Beiderbecke - Changes (1928)

Harry Lillis "Bing" Crosby (May 2,1903 Oct.14,1977) was an American popular singer and actor whose career lasted from 1926 until his death. One of the last multimedia stars, from 1934 to 1954 Bing Crosby held a nearly unrivaled command of record sales, radio ratings and motion picture grosses. Widely recognized as one of the most popular musical acts in history, Crosby is also credited as being the major inspiration for most of the male singers of the era that followed him, including Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, and Dean Martin. Yank magazine recognized Crosby as the person who had done the most for American GI morale during World War II and, during his peak years, around 1948, polls declared him the "most admired man alive," ahead of Jackie Robinson and Pope Pius XII. Also during 1948, the Music Digest estimated that Crosby recordings filled more than half of the 80000 weekly hours allocated to recorded radio music. Crosby exerted an important influence on the development of the postwar recording industry. In 1947, he invested US$50000 in the Ampex company, which developed North America's first commercial reel-to-reel tape recorder, and Crosby became the first performer to pre-record his radio shows and master his commercial recordings on magnetic tape. He gave one of the first Ampex Model 200 recorders to his friend, musician Les Paul, which led directly to Paul's invention of multitrack recording. Along with Frank Sinatra, he was one of the principal backers behind the ...

As a teenager he would sneak off to the banks of the Mississippi to listen to bands play on the riverboats arriving from the south. One of the leading names in 1920s jazz, Beiderbecke's career was cut short by chronic poor health, exacerbated by alcoholism. Critic Scott Yanow describes Beiderbecke as the "[p]ossessor of a beautiful, distinctive tone and a strikingly original improvising style. Beiderbecke's chief competitor among cornetists in the '20s was Louis Armstrong, but (due to their different sounds and styles) one really could not compare them."Bix Beiderbecke recorded many jazz standards during his career in the 1920s and early 1930s, including "Riverboat Shuffle", "Copenhagen", "Davenport Blues", "Singin' the Blues", "In a Mist", "I'm Coming, Virginia", and "Georgia On My Mind". Illness frequently kept Beiderbecke out of school, and his grades suffered. He attended Davenport High School briefly, but his parents felt that enrolling him in the exclusive Lake Forest Academy, north of Chicago in Lake Forest, Illinois, as a boarding student would provide him with both the necessary faculty attention and discipline to improve his academic performance. BIX BEIDERBECKE - SINGIN' THE BLUES

Bix and Tram's revolutionary 1927 recording. "Singin' The Blues is basically made up of two thirty-bar solos, successively executed by Tram and Bix, both accompanied by Eddie Lang. It would be more exact to speak of two duets because the part played by the guitarist is so original and inspired - more than accompanying the two solos, it flows inside them." -Jean Pierre Lion BIX The Definitive Biography Of A Jazz Legend

Kerry Lutz - Interview Bix Weir - November 23, 2011

KerryLutz.com Bix Weir of RoadtoRoota.com joins us today to talk about gold and silver manipulation and the impending collapse of the world fiat money markets. Bix has been studying markets for a long time and has arrived at the conclusion that once the collapse occurs, it will be the largest debtors who fare the best. And of debtor nations, the United States stands head and shoulders above the rest. According to Bix gold and silver are still screaming bargains who's time will soon come. He believes that eventually the gold to silver ratio will go to 5 to 1, meaning that you will be able to purchase 5 ounces of silver with 1 ounce of gold, unlike the 55 it now requires. Should this circumstance come about, holders of silver will realize dramatic increases in value of their investments. But there's a catch, paper holders of metals could very well be wiped out. Bix Beiderbecke 78 record on an old gramophone.

We do not normally play scarce 78 rpm records on acoustic gramophones, but this one is not in very good condition, so it doesn't really matter! 'I'm Wondering Who' was recorded in New York in 1927 by a band which is usually known, appropriately, as the 'New Yorkers', which was under the leadership of Adrian Rollini. Several of the musicians were from Jean Goldkette's Orchestra, which had just disbanded. Rollini took his band into a night club called the 'New Yorker', but it folded after a couple of weeks or so. In the band were Bix Beiderbecke and Frank Trumbauer, who then went on to join Paul Whiteman. But as Trumbauer already had a recording contract with OKeh, these musicians made a couple of sessions for OKeh. Whose band it actually was is still unclear (at least to me!), but the two sides made on 30th September 1927, this one and 'Just An Hour Of Love' were issued on OKeh under the name of Benny Meroff and his Orchestra. Meroff was a genuine bandleader; how or why his name was 'borrowed' is not known to me. However, when the sides were issued in the UK, they were labelled as 'Frank Trumbauer and his Augmented Orchestra', as you can see from the label. This 78 is elusive in the UK, as I believe the OKeh is in the USA The machine on which the disc is played is a cheap, anonymous 'hornless' table top gramophone. They don't usually sound very good; but I like them for some reason, and currently own three examples. I recently cleaned and oiled the motor of this machine ...

"I'll Be A Friend With Pleasure" by Bix Beiderbecke

I'll Be A Friend 'With Pleasure' is cornetist Bix Beiderbecke's next-to-last appearance in a recording studio. His last recording session took place only one week later. This Sept. 8, 1930 date was organized around a group of Bix's close, long-time friends. The label credits trumpeter Ray Lodwig as the group's director; he takes the muted trumpet chorus that opens up the record. Other band members included Boyce Cullen on trombone, Benny Goodman, Jimmy Dorsey, and Pee Wee Russel on clarinet and alto sax, Min Leibrook on string bass, Irving Brodsky on piano, and Gene Krupa on drums. The band plods along all the way through Wes Vaughn's warbly falsetto vocal, but then Bix and Jimmy Dorsey both play beautiful choruses, bringing the record to a satisfying close. It is possible that the phrase 'With Pleasure' is a reference to the Camel Pleasure Hour radio broadcast, which at the time included Bix in its studio orchestra.
