Boeing 747-8F Performs Ultimate Rejected Take-off

Imagine you're driving at the maximum speed allowed on a major highway and you have to suddenly stop the car. In April, a fully-loaded 747-8 Freighter with worn-out brakes attempted an aborted takeoff on a California runway. The rejected takeoff or maximum brake energy test is one of the most dramatic for a new airplane. It's basically what Boeing test pilot Captain Kirk Vining had to do recently with the new 747-8 Freighter during one of the most dramatic airplane certification tests. However, instead of a 4000-pound (1815 kilograms) car, the 747-8 weighed in at close to one million pounds. "In the emergency event that we have to make a rejected takeoff at these heavy weights, it takes a long distance for the airplane to stop," says Capt. Vining. The Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental and 747-8 Freighter are the new, high-capacity 747s that offer the lowest operating costs and best economics of any large passenger or freighter airplane. Both are on track to make their first deliveries later this year after certification. To simulate the ultimate rejected takeoff (RTO), crews loaded the airplane above its maximum takeoff weight of 975000 pounds and installed a set of 100% worn-out brakes. In April, the Boeing Test & Evaluation team brought the 747-8 Freighter to a long runway in California to simulate the ultimate rejected takeoff (RTO). Crews loaded the airplane above its maximum takeoff weight of 975000 pounds (443181 kilograms) and installed a set of 100% worn-out brakes ...

Boeing 747-8F goes on roller coaster flight

A flight loads survey is often compared to a long roller coaster ride because of the sudden and dramatic ups and downs during the flight. And because of those extreme maneuvers, it is one of the most grueling tests for a new airplane, including those monitoring onboard.

boeing 787 documentary on CNN ~New~

boeing 787 documentary on CNN HD he Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a long-range, mid-size wide-body, twin-engine jet airliner developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. It seats 210 to 330 passengers, depending on the variant. Boeing states that it is the company's most fuel-efficient airliner and the world's first major airliner to use composite materials for most of its construction.[3] The 787 consumes 20% less fuel than the similarly-sized Boeing 767.[4] Some of its distinguishing features include a four-panel windshield, noise-reducing chevrons on its engine nacelles, and a smoother nose contour. The aircraft's initial designation was 7E7, prior to its renaming in January 2005.[5] The first 787 was unveiled in a roll-out ceremony on July 8, 2007, at Boeing's Everett assembly factory, by which time it had become the fastest-selling wide-body airliner in history with 677 orders.[6] By June 2011, 827 Boeing 787s had been ordered by 59 customers, with ILFC having the largest number on order.[7] The 787 development and production has involved a large-scale collaboration with numerous suppliers around the globe. It is being assembled at the Boeing Everett Factory in Everett, Washington. Aircraft will also be assembled at a new factory in North Charleston, South Carolina. Both sites will deliver 787s to airline customers. Originally planned to enter service in May 2008, the project has suffered from repeated delays and is now more than three years behind schedule. Philippine Airlines (RP-C7473) Boeing 747-400 Emergency landing at LAX

A Philippine Airlines jumbo jet declared an emergency because of a possible blown tire, but the plane was able to land safely at Los Angeles International Airport. The pilot initially descended to a low altitude so a police helicopter could inspect the tire's condition, then pulled up again and circled before landing. The Boeing 747 then touched down smoothly around 9 pm Friday. The aircraft idled on the runway as fire trucks and other ground crews surrounded it. It turns out that two tires had blown. An airport spokeswoman said 400 passengers and 20 crew members were aboard the plane.
