Martin Boettcher is a German composer, arranger and orchestrator who is mainly known for his "Winnetou" soundtracks. He wrote the music for no less than 10 "Karl May" movies and at the time (sixties) one critic wrote : "the success of these 'German western movies' is caused for 50 percent by Martin Boettcher's music." And that sure was no lie, because several of these compositions (like eg "Der Schatz am Silbermeer" ("aka "Old Shatterhand melody") reached the nbr one position in the German hitparade and stayed "in pole position" for several weeks. Boettcher's sound is recognizable immediately and fans of the "Winnetou" music surely will discover elements of the typical sound in this little piece called "Blue moon and Love letters". Well... the title may not be very original (and a bit confusing perhaps) but Boettcher's music definitely is ! Martin Boettcher's nickname could well be "the master of melody" as - besides the well known "big shots" like Last or Kaempfert - there aren't too many other European composers who are that talented....... Anyway, we invite you to judge for yourself as you watch this theme presentation "Traces of Tenderness". From the 1979 album "Romantic Harmonies" here are Martin Boettcher and His Orchestra with "Blue moon and love letters". Enjoy.

Martin Boettcher is a German composer/orchestrator whose "Winnetou" music has conquered the world. Indeed, Mr Boettcher wrote the fabulous music for several so-called "German westerns" - all based upon the novels by Karl May. His "Winnetou melodie" and "Old Shatterhand theme" are considered as "top soundtracks" even up to the point where critics wrote : "fifty percent of the movie quality consists of the movie music" ! Besides the "western" themes Boettcher also composed for many other films and TV-series. Here we present a real fun & easy tune, called "Happy Teddy" where you easily could add the words "take it nice and easy" ! (Hence our show title) With snowflakes falling now and temperatures going "below zero" we felt we had to add some "summerlike" pictures "to warm things up a bit" ;-)) From the 1974 double album "Portrait in Music" here's Martin Boettcher with the careless "Happy Teddy". It's been used live 3 times now and I keep getting comments on how good it sounds through the DI out the front end. The licks are just some things that I've been playing for years. The first 2 parts are my own little twists in G, the second solo is Johnny Hiland from the Don Kelley Band's version of "Truck Drivin' man", and of course how could I not do "Country Boy" from Albert Lee and Ricky Skaggs.
